Fox Sports West:
The Dodgers finally have the resources to acquire additional talent, and its the year Major League Baseball has added an additional wild card team and precious few teams are out of the race and wanting to deal.
And right now, it looks like the Dodgers could use an additional starting pitcher.
Trainer Sue Falsone said left-hander Ted Lilly is scheduled to undergo an arthrogram on his sore left shoulder on Friday. Lilly said he threw on the side Wednesday and reported no improvement.
Lilly, 36, has been on the disabled list since May 28 after complaining of shoulder soreness.
Falsone said the MRI with injected dye is not designed to show injury to the muscle, but to inspect the joint and show possible damage to the labrum. Lilly previously had arthroscopic surgery to clean up his labrum on Nov. 3, 2009.
We know its not going to be completely clean after the previous surgery, she said.
Still, it appears Lilly could be out for a while, which underscores the teams lack of rotation depth. Nathan Eovaldi was called up to take Lillys place in the rotation, and although the Dodgers like him plenty, hes about it for their system insurance policy.
The best guy going at triple-A Albuquerque is John Ely, who has apparently regained his control (4-3, 3.58 ERA, 65 strikeouts, 15 walks in 60 13 innings).
The Dodgers have been looking around for rotation help, not that there appears much out there. They looked at signing free-agent Roy Oswalt, whom they were convinced was going to sign with his hometown Texas Rangers, and he did.
A year ago under owner Frank McCourt, the Dodgers were provided the financial resources to expand payroll. This year under Guggenheim Baseball Management, they have the funds but may find that teams willing to trade are in short supply.
Lilly is 5-1 with a 3.14 ERA in eight starts this season.

The MLB Draft is a crap shoot -- more so than any other draft in professional sports. When there's as many as 40 rounds, that's bound to happen.
The Dodgers, in the Logan White era, have drafted many a pitcher. That is obviously his philosophy. There's nothing wrong with that.

The Dodgers amazingly performed well without Matt Kemp, going 9-5 while the superstar center fielder was on the disabled list due to a left hamstring strain.
They might have to attempt to duplicate the feat, as Kemp is hurt again.
In just his second game back from the disabled list, Kemp aggravated his left hamstring injury while scoring from first base on a first-inning double...
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Matt Kemp on the 15 day Disabled List a couple of weeks ago when he suffered a hamstring injury. Kemp said he never felt that bad, and would definitely be back as soon as he was eligible to return to the lineup.
Well, he was right. He returned the first day possible. He then went on to injure himself during that same game, and now he is...
The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed center fielder Matt Kemp on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this month because of a left hamstring strain.
The move came Thursday after Kemp went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored in two games since being reinstated from the disabled list two days earlier.

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers entered their Thursday night affair with the Brewers after already having lost the series, dropping their third game in a row Wednesday night becoming the last team in the league to do so.
Before the game started Thursday, they suffered another loss, learning Matt Kemp would return to the 15-day disabled list after suffering another strain to the left...
Matt Kemp‘s MRI showed that he has suffered another strain in addition to the original one. The results of the MRI on Matt Kemp’s hamstring showed he not only re-injured the original strain Wednesday but suffered a second one. Dodgers trainer Sue Falsone said he’s expected to be out a minimum of four weeks. That’s
The Los Angeles Dodgers have all but ruled out injured slugger Matt Kemp for next month's All-Star game in Kansas City.
''It's a long shot at this point because he's not healthy,'' general manager Ned Colletti said Monday before the opener of a three-game series at San Francisco.
The slugging center fielder is still recovering from a strained left hamstring...
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Matt Kemp back on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday after he aggravated his hamstring injury, but Kemp said he expects to be sidelined for a month. Kemp is out of action again just two days after being activated from the disabled list. Kemp reinjured his left hamstring while running the bases in Wednesday's game. To replace Kemp...
After being re-aggravating his hamstring in the first inning of today’s game, Matt Kemp went into a bit of a rage about it, jumping and breaking a bat over his knee before throwing pieces of it all over the dugout
Mike Piazza has become the symbol of big league underdogs.
A 62nd-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Dodgers -- thanks to the pleading of longtime Piazza family friend Tommy Lasorda -- Piazza put together a Hall of Fame-caliber career that included 12 All-Star selections, the 1993 National League Rookie of the Year award, 10 Silver Slugger awards and seven top-10 finishes in...
Aaron Harang pitched six strong innings, Bobby Abreu homered for the first time this year and the Los Angeles Dodgers ended a season-worst five-game losing streak with a 6-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.
Andre Ethier and Elian Herrera had two hits and two RBIs each and James Loney also had two hits for the Dodgers.
Michael Cuddyer and Wilin Rosario had RBI doubles...
The Dodgers are 32-18 and have a 5.5 game lead for first place. They have the best record in baseball. However, you can still buy tickets to watch the Dodgers play for under a dollar. Wow… Financial problems or not, 75 cents is crazy. I thought the Mets and their 5 dollar tickets was crazy.
The debut episode of “Between Two Palm Trees” provided a GIFable moment, but this one took awkward to the next level. Your browser does not support iframes. The best thing? I didn’t know this was a series of videos, I thought it was a one-off
If you were building a fantasy baseball roster from scratch, the following players would force your buddy to pose the question: "How'd you manage to draft all of them?"
Catcher - Jonathan Lucroy
1B/DH - Travis Hafner
Shortstop - Troy Tulowitzki
Outfielder - Matt Kemp
Outfielder - Nick Markakis
Starting Pitcher - Roy Halladay
Starting Pitcher - Jared Weaver
The Dodgers have lost five in a row, and last night was the cherry on top of that streak, a 13-3 loss to the Rockies. The first four games in the streak came to the Brewers, who came into the series in LA nine games under .500. Before last night's game, the Rockies were eight games under .500. Seriously, Dodgers? With Matt Kemp out at least a month, and the Dodgers already...
