Earlier this week, a source told FOXSports.com that two American League teams had been in recent touch with the Los Angeles Dodgers about a trade for right fielder Andre Ethier.   One of those teams was the Seattle Mariners, but the talks failed to progress, major-league sources say. The other team is not known.   Ethier, 30, would be an excellent fit for the Mariners, who had the lowest combined OPS from their outfield of any team in the American League last season.   The Mariners’ new hitting coach, Dave Hansen, previously was with the Dodgers. But the Dodgers’ willingness to move Ethier remains in question.   The Dodgers are shopping Ethier, major-league sources say, but one official with knowledge of the team’s recent discussions says that the latest talks about him stemmed from inquiries by the two AL teams.   Ethier agreed to a five-year, $85 million contract extension with the Dodgers just six months ago. It seems doubtful that any team would take the contract in its entirety.

Mariners are the Dodgers' best match for a potential Andre Ethier trade

With the Andre Ethier kinda-sorta-but-not-really rumors floating around (depending who you believe), it might be a good time to check out which teams might be interested in him and what the Dodgers could possible look for in return. First, let's identify the Dodgers' remaining needs. Third base I recently wrote a post saying Luis Cruz isn't the answer at third...

Rumor Mill: Trading Andre Ethier & signing Michael Bourn + trading for Joel Hanrahan

Nowhere to start here but with Andre Ethier rumors, right? Well, last time we left off on this rumbling, I was tackling a scenario where Ethier gets dealt and the Dodgers sign Nick Swisher, but there was one other frequently brought up possibility: Michael Bourn. The Dodgers could pursue free agent center fielder Michael Bourn if they trade Andre Ethier, Rosenthal writes. Bourn is...

Dodgers’ Ronald Belisario is Kicked off his Winter League Team

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody in Dodgertown that oft-troubled relief pitcher for the Los Angeles  Dodgers is once again in the hot seat. This time it is for the Venezuela Bravos de Margarita. Belisario, 29, has had several issues with the Dodgers in the four years he has spent in Los Angeles. In 2009 he had trouble getting a visa from the United States Embassy in Caracas...

Dodgers send John Ely to Astros for Rob Rasmussen, and it's a good deal

Not the trade some were expecting, but a trade nonetheless. The Dodgers sent John Ely, the perpetrator of "Elymania" a few years ago to Houston for left-handed pitcher Rob Rasmussen. With the Dodgers signing Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu, while also shopping starters Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang, Ely was about 15th on the starting pitcher depth chart. It's...

Down On The Farm: Winter Leagues – Dominguez, Sulbaran, Garcia, Puig, Miller

The Dodgers have sent a lot of guys to play in winter ball following the conclusion of the Arizona Fall League. They are well represented in the Caribbean Winter Leagues and it’s nice to see some guys getting consistent playing time. —– Dominican Winter League Geison Aguasviva has a 7.71 ERA in 2 1/3 innings. Juan Abreu has thrown 6 2/3 innings, allowed 6 hits, two runs, two...

Trade Storm Brewing In Dodgertown

Last week we heard from Dodgers GM Ned Colletti saying the Dodgers are probably done spending, more or less, according to Mark Saxon of ESPNLA. The Dodgers still have some holes to fill and if the above is true, there is a major trade storm brewing in Los Angeles. The Dodgers have Dee Gordon on the trading block and the Mariners have been the biggest aggressor in the pursuit of...

Dodgers lack a quality bench, which is something that needs to be addressed

The Dodgers have a pretty thin bench. When guys like Skip Schumaker and Jerry Hairston are the best the team has to offer, something needs to be done. For all the corner outfielder/first basemen the Dodgers had in recent years, that's where they're lacking right now. Despite acquiring Schumaker, the Dodgers might still need a legitimate center fielder. Tony Gwynn might...

Dodgers deal John Ely for minor leaguer

The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded right-handed pitcher John Ely to the Houston Astros in exchange for minor league left-hander Rob Rasmussen. Rasmussen, 23, is a native of Arcadia and played collegiately at UCLA after starring at Polytechnic High School in Pasadena. In 2007, the Dodgers selected him in the 27th round of the amateur draft, but he decided to attend UCLA instead...

I am at my desk holding the official BBWAA Hall of Fame ballot. It is my reward turned responsibility for covering Major League Baseball for over 20 years. That’s close to 2,500 games, many spent watching Mike Piazza dominate his position like no other catcher with 396 homers (427 overall). Report: Red Sox Inquired About Andre Ethier Earlier in Offseason, Were Told Outfielder ‘Not Available’

Andre Ethier‘s name has been coming up in trade rumors recently, but the Dodgers might have to be blown away in order for them to deal the All-Star outfielder. That apparently didn’t stop the Red Sox from at least asking about Ethier, though. According to CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman, the Sox inquired about Ethier earlier in the offseason but were told the outfielder was “not...
