Jon Heyman provides his latest rumors update from Dodgertown. Heyman says that the Dodgers are still considered the front-runners in the Ricky Nolasco talks, but the Orioles, Giants, Rangers, and Rockies are among the teams also in the mix. The Dodgers have been considered the favorite since they seem to be the only team willing to absorb the entire portion of the $5.75MM remaining on Nolasco’s $11.5-million 2013 salary. The Marlins are hoping to deal Nolasco before his scheduled start tomorrow. Heyman hears that the word around baseball is that the Dodgers could have interest in Chase Utley. So far speculation is that the Dodgers have not inquired with Phillies GM Ruben Amaro about Utley’s availability, and the Phillies don’t seem too desperate to trade one of their franchise players despite the fact he is headed towards free agency. If the Phillies do decide to sell, they are said to be more willing to part with Michael Young, who’s interested the Dodgers before. I’m going to go ahead and just call this fluff. Yes? Good? Moving on. If the Dodgers are going to go after any second baseman, an aging and injury prone one doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. Instead, how about Jose Altuve from the Astros? The Astros are going to be big sellers this summer, it could happen, it just might.
