LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Andre Ethier had a pair of doubles among his season-high four hits, Dee Gordon hit a rare home run and the Los Angeles Dodgers snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 7-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday night. Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-2) allowed one run and five hits in 6 2-3 innings. The left-hander took a three-hit shutout into the seventh before Miguel Olivo homered. Ethier's four-hit game was first since last Aug. 24-25, when he had back-to-back four-hit efforts against the Marlins at Dodger Stadium -- each of which included a home run. The two-time All-Star is batting .403 against the Marlins in during his eight-year career. Kevin Slowey (1-3) gave up five runs, 11 hits and three walks in 4 2-3 innings. Slowey, who pitched seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball against Philadelphia last weekend, hasn't won consecutive starts since Sept. 12-18, 2010 with Minnesota. Ethier led off the Dodgers' second with a double, ending a drought of 30...

Making Moves: Ellis/Hairston hit DL, Bills to 60-day, T-Fed/Van Slyke recalled, Stripling promoted

Mark Ellis finally hit the 15-day DL, being placed on it Monday retroactive to April 27. The Dodgers activated Chris Capuano from the 15-day DL in a corresponding move. It took the Dodgers about a week longer than it should have, but as expected Mark Ellis was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a strained right quad. The move clears a spot for Chris Capuano to be activated...

Zack Greinke may start for Dodgers Wednesday

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a nose-dive.  They have lost eight of their last ten games.  They are in last place in the National League West.  They are seven games under .500.  The list could go on and on, but help may be on the way in the form of Zack Greinke.  He appears to be on pace to rejoin the club on Wednesday. As we covered yesterday, Greinke made a rehab start...

Greinke's return with Dodgers still uncertain

LOS ANGELES Less than a month after breaking his left collarbone in a brawl with Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin and the subsequent surgery Zack Greinke is ready to pitch on the major league level. This was after being told that hed miss a minimum of six weeks, but more likely eight. Thats what they told you guys, said Greinke, laughing as he spoke to reporters Saturday afternoon...

Could A Closer Switch Be On The Horizon For Los Angeles Dodgers?

Change is brewing in the bullpen of the Los Angeles Dodgers 36 games into the 2013 season. The position of closer was given to Brandon League during the offseason when he signed a three year, $22.5 million contract. League came over to the Dodgers for two prospects in a late season trade in 2012 with the Seattle Mariners. At the end of the season the closer job was League’s as...

Slightly Hefty Dodgers Fan Makes Surprisingly Athletic Catch

It is a good rule of thumb to never judge a book by its cover, and this is a perfect example. Focus on the slightly hefty Dodgers fan in the stands who at first glance seems like he wouldn’t be interested in risking life and limb for a foul ball. Wrong. Check out the awesome catch he makes on a sharp foul ball to the first-base side. Not too shabby! The Dodgers went on to beat...

Dodgers' Zack Greinke begins rehab, could return soon

Los Angeles Dodgers’ ace Zack Greinke began his rehab assignment on Friday, May 10. Greinke threw 4.1 innings for the Dodgers' Class A Rancho Cucamonga. MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick reports that Greinke allowed 8 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 4 batters. While his line may not impress statisticians, the fact that Greinke pitched in a game so soon after surgery is...

Zack Greinke to make rehab start tonight

Zack Greinke will make his first rehab start tonight for the  Class-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, just a mere four weeks removed  from having shoulder surgery for a broken clavicle. If all goes well in his minor league start, Greinke will likely return to the Dodgers rotation on Wednesday when L.A. hosts the Washington Nationals. His return could not come at a better time as the Dodgers...

Dodgers Problems

Yes, the same Los Angeles baseball team that was bought for over $2 billion dollars last year. The same team that traded for Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez, Josh Beckett, and Carl Crawford, signed Zack Greinke, and already had Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, and Clayton Kershaw on its roster, is 13-21. But why? Well, here’s the short answer… Injuries. Photo Credit: (Lenny Ignelzi...

Hyun-Jin Ryu Shouldn't be Jealous of K-Pop Superstar

By now you've seen that horrendous first pitch attempt by K-Pop singing sensation Tiffany, right? Well, in case you haven't...here it is. Turns out, fellow Korean import, Hyun-jin Ryu is jealous of Tiffany, but, obviously, not her pitching mechanics. According to this random fansite dedicated to Tiffany's pop singing group Girls' Generation (don&...

Dodgers on a long losing streak…but is help on the way?

Well, keeping up with the blog has proved difficult the last couple of weeks.  By all appearances, the Dodgers offense appears to be having similar success. It’s time for direct intervention.  The last time the Dodgers won was a week ago on Hanley Ramirez Bobblehead Night at Chavez Ravine when this writer was in attendance.  After last night’s 9-2 beat-down to the Arizona...
