In many ways, Ike Davis' grand slam in the Mets' 5-0 victory over the Orioles on Monday was even more meaningful than R.A. Dickey's second consecutive one-hitter.

The Mets have amazingly come to expect this sort of production from Dickey, who has allowed one hit over his last 17 innings and no earned runs over his last 42 2/3. But they have not come to expect anything like this from Davis, who entered Monday's play with a .194 average and one home run since May 11.

Nonetheless, it was Davis who provided all the offense that Dickey would need in the sixth inning, drilling a Jake Arrieta sinker over the center-field fence for his first career grand slam.

Dickey sparked the game-winning rally himself, singling off Arrieta and moving to third on Jordany Valdespin's one-out double. After Dickey narrowly avoided a double play on David Wright's lineout, Lucas Duda walked to load the bases with two outs. That brought up Davis, who has strung together a nine-game hitting streak since his average bottomed out at .158 on June 8.

The first baseman is batting .462 (12-for-26) over his hitting streak, increasing his season average 38 points. One more good game could push him over .200 for the first time all season.

Davis was overshadowed Monday only by Dickey, who struck out 13 batters, walked two and is 11-1 with a 2.00 ERA. Dickey's streak of 42 2/3 innings without an earned run is the second longest in franchise history, trailing only Dwight Gooden's mark of 49 straight innings in 1985.
