Rewind time to last season...Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee on the mound for a double header.  Confidence of sweep in favor of the good guys- high.  Now, back to present day.  Confidence level- low.  My fantasy team could use a complete game shutout from Ol' Girl Parts and Lee needs to get a win (it's nearly July for crying out loud!).  Game 1 start time has been pushed up to 1:05 (previously 1:35).  Sweeping the double header, and therefore the series, would be a big boost to an otherwise demoralized squad.  Does the climb back to .500 begin today?*Jim Thome became the all-time leader in walkoff homeruns, now with 13.  He was also supposedly paid $5000 for bailing out Papelbon's blow save. *Chase Utley is rumored to be returning to the Phillies this Wednesday. I hope that doesn't mean Mike Fontenot is sent  to Lehigh Valley with Michael Martinez remaining.  Mini Mart is bad.  Really, really fricken bad.  He does not belong on a MLB roster and probably not even a Triple-A...

No excuses for Cliff Lee

Loading...     With Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee on the mound for Sunday’s doubleheader the Phillies had to take at least one game. Unfortunately, the Phillies shaky bullpen and struggling Cliff Lee continue to haunt the team as they dropped both games to the Tampa Bay Rays. This time last June Cliff Lee was finishing up three straight starts of complete game shutouts. He...

Cliff Lee Still Seeking First Win, Will Attempt Against Rays

The Phillies were unable to pull off a sweep against the Rockies, but they still won two games out of three. I guess it's good enough, but now the real task is at hand. The Phillies are opening up a weekend series with the Tampa Rays this evening. The Rays (38-31) sit 3 1/2 games back in the AL East while the Phillies (33-38) still sit nine games back in their division. Given...

Cliff Lee is still winless at the end of June

No. This is not the summer version of an April Fools joke. Cliff Lee is still winless at the end of June. His record, in fact, is a bewildering, befuddling, inexplicable 0–4. This is not what the Phillies intended when they signed FA Cliff Lee Remember when Lee and the Texas Rangers lost the 2010 World Series to the San Francisco Giants? The Rangers tried mightily to re-sign Lee...

After Phillies Drop Game One, Cliff Lee Gets Nod In Game Two Against Rays

Cole Hamels tossed seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing three hits while walking three and striking out seven against the Rays. Hamels earned the no-decision in the Phillies' 3-2 loss in game one. Antonio Bastardo is the one to blame for the loss, he walked the first two batters he faced and surrendered a three-run homer to Carlos Pena. The Phils were unable to get...

Buy or Sell? What Can the Phillies Do To Improve? (PART 1 OF 3)

The Phillies have some questions so far this year, but one stands out the most. What can this team do to improve for the stretch run? Many people have speculated that it is time for a trade. Some are willing to part with Cliff Lee. Others suggest an impending free agent Cole Hamels should be on the move. But, could that change possibly come from within, i.e. Domonic Brown? How about...

Shields ready to pitch Rays past Philadelphia

Tune into Sun Sports at 6:30 p.m. to watch the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Philadelphia Phillies. A discouraging stretch over the last week has dropped the Tampa Bay Rays out of first place in the AL East. Rays 7, Phillies 3

J-Roll Performs The Howard

Congratulations to Jimmy Rollins for producing the Phillies first Howard of the season. For those of you not "in the know" (and seriously where the hell have you been), The Howard is any time a player hits a homerun, strikes out, and commits an error all in the same ball game. Last night's Phils win featured two Howards; one by Young James and the other by the enemy...
