Buffalo Bisons (13-10, 2 GB)

-The Bisons are one of only five teams in the entire International League with at least 13 wins, unfortunately for them two others are in the same division with league leading Pawtucket and Lehigh Valley. Recently they are winners of their last three straight games and winners of four of their last five. Yesterday they had a walk-off 4-3 victory over Rochester as Vinny Rotino drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

-Lifetime minor leaguer Bobby Scales is still leading the team with a .400 batting average going 28-for-70 at the plate. Val Pascucci is leading in homeruns with six as well as RBI with 16. On the mound Chris Schwinden and Jeremy Hefner who both saw time with the Major League team this past week are leading the team in ERA, as Hefner has a 2.08 and Schwinden a 2.05, out of the pen Fernando Cabrera, Danny Herrera, Chuck James and Jack Egbert have all had solid starts through the first month of the season.

Binghamton Mets (11-10, 3 GB)

-The B-Mets are hanging in the standings while five of the top six teams are within five games of the top spot in the division, sorry Portland. The team has been alternating wins and loses over their last six times on the field leading to their .500 record. They wrap up their series at Erie today before moving on the Akron to take on the Aeros.

-Jefry Marte is leading the team in hitting with a .367 average, while Matt den Dekker (.286) and Juan Lagares (.250) round out the outfield group. Den Dekker is leading the team in homers with three, while Marte has the lead in RBI with 12 followed closely by Josh Rodriguez with 10. Zack Wheeler on the mound has a 1.80 ERA through four starts, while Mark Cohoon continues to quietly work his way up the Mets system with a 2.25 ERA. Left Darin Gorski has a 2.75 ERA through four starts as well, this team is stacked with pitching while the hitting needs to pick it up.

St. Lucie Mets (18-4, 7 GA)

-This team is amazing just as it was last year with an entirely different group of players, this team is well on their way to a first half division title, let’s just hope they can get the job done at the end of the season in 2012. The team is currently on a three game winning streak while heading into the final two games of their four game set with Fort. Myers.

-Darrell Ceciliani is leading the team with a .346 average, followed by Wilmer Flores with a .311. Cory Vaughn is leading the team with four homers while Flores has the team RBI lead with 17. The pitching has done just as well as Chase Hutchingson leads the team with a 1.23 ERA in four starts followed by Angel Cuan with a 2.78 ERA. Closer by committee is the strategy in the bullpen as four different guys have totaled 10 saves for the St. Lucie Mets.

Andres Torres versus Kirk Nieuwenhuis

Well the Mets certainly had an interesting series in Denver this weekend. They got smoked in the first game losing 18-9, they were down twice in the second game but won 7-5, and today after blowing a 4-0 lead for Johan Santana, they won in extra innings 6-5 in spite of the bullpen’s worst efforts. As a typical series at Coors Field, the offense enjoyed the visit, and the pitching...

Mets Minors: Cory Vaughn pours on the power in PSL

It took me a moment to decide who I was going to focus this week.  Zack Wheeler tossed two more games, Reese Havens returned to Binghamton and made up for lost time, Wilmer Flores is still hitting and T.J. Rivera continues to try his best to make me take notice of his play in Savannah.  Instead I’m going to write about Cory Vaughn… Again. I have a pretty legit excuse. ...

Matt Harvey Makes BA’s Prospect Hot Sheet

Baseball America’s Prospect Hot Sheet for the period April 20-26 has Mets top prospect RHP Matt Harvey ranked #6 and 3B Wilmer Flores gets an honorable mention. Regarding Flores BA Writes: For as long as he’s been around, it’s easy to forget that Wilmer Flores is still just a 20-year-old in the high Class A Florida State League. Now playing third base for the Mets,...

Ike Davis & Lucas Duda: Slumps, hot streaks and defense

The 2012 Mets need Ike Davis and Lucas Duda to be healthy and productive in the middle of the order to have a successful season. Unfortunately, both of these players started off the year hitting poorly. Here were their numbers through April 13th: ID – 1-23 with 9 Ks in 26 PA (34.6 K%) LD – 3-25 with 9 Ks in 28 PA (32.1 K%) The Mets were able to stay afloat thanks to surprisingly...

Old Time Mets: LHP Jon Matlack

Jon Matlack’s career record of 125-126 may be as mediocre as you can get, but Matlack was a much, much better than average major league pitcher. In fact, he was one of the very finest lefthanded pitchers ever developed by the Mets’ organization. His other career marks – 3.18 lifetime ERA (better than Steve Carlton, who was considered the best lefty of his generation), 97 complete...

Post Game: Mets Lose Albatross to Rockies 19-8

The New York Mets allowed a total of 4 runs against the Miami Marlins in their sweep of the floundering fish this week. Tonight, the club multiplied that 4-run total by 4 and added 3, just for good measure. The New York Mets (11-9) dropped the series opener against the Colorado Rockies (10-9) 19-8 tonight behind atrocious pitching and a few defensive mishaps. After the Mets jumped...

N.Y. Mets Clowning Out West

Fans of the New York Metropolitans haven't had much to celebrate in recent seasons. Their last winning record was 89-73 in 2008, after Jerry Manuel took over for Willie Randolph midseason. Compared to the doom and gloom many predicted for the Mets, the start of this young season has been a pleasant surprise for fans from Flushing. The Mets are three games over .500, trailing...

Hits and Misses: Just Another Manic Monday

The Mets are 13-9 and if the season ended today, and I know it doesn’t, the Mets would be in the playoffs. The Marlins and Phillies on the other hand would be watching from home like you and me. Now onto the meaty stuff… During the Colorado series the Mets bullpen was charged with 17 earned runs in 11 innings, prompting Terry Collins to say: “If we started getting banged...

Johan Takes On Methuselah; Mets Lineup Vs. Rockies - April 29, 2012

Johan Santana will start today for the Mets. Santana is coming off a great start against Marlins. Hopefully the Mets offense will actually score a run for their lefty ace. The Rockies will send Methuselah, Jamie Moyer to the hill. The 49 year old Moyer is 1-2 with a respectable 2.28 ERA. Also in the news it sounds like Andres Torres will be back this week, and will be given the CF and

Pre-Game: New York Mets (12-9) @ Colorado Rockies (10-10)

This afternoon, the New York Mets will look to take the rubber match against the Colorado Rockies in a series that has proven to be a battle of the braun . Over the course of the first 2 games of the series, 38 men have crossed the plate in a series of back-and-forth slugfests. The rubber match will ultimately be a battle of 2 elite pitchers, although their status as elite comes under...

3 Up & 3 Down: Rockin’ the Rockies Edition

The Mets win a three game weekend series against the Rockies, taking the rubber game 6-5 in eleven innings. This was a really strange series where we pretty much saw the unexpected. The Mets scored 9 runs on Friday night, only to see the Rocks score 18! One guy hit for the cycle, another hit a grand slam pitch hit home run, certainly not your generic, run of mill series. 3 Up: ...

Jose Reyes making $625K per hit, Ruben Tejada making $17.5K per hit

This season Jose Reyes is making $10 million. Ruben Tejada is making $491 thousand. Or, $625,000 per Reyes hit this year. $17,500 something per Tejada hit. — 213 Miles From Shea (@213MFS) April 29, 2012 Moneyball. Why pay $625K per hit when you can pay $17.5K per hit? Good job Mr. Alderson. Thanks for not giving a bad contract to Jose Reyes.
