Found March 09, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
Lucas Duda is showing signs of snapping out of his spring slumber going 3-for-3 with two RBIs as the Mets defeated the Astros 9-6 this afternoon at Tradition Field. Duda now has six hits in his last 15 at-bats after an agonizing start that sent him to the sidelines for a couple of days to work on his swing. It looks like those two days off did the trick. “I feel like I’m a good hitter.” Duda said. “I’m going to continue to work hard and let the chips fall where they may.” Ike Davis has shown no signs of slowing down and is batting .368 after picking up two more hits and a walk. He erased all concerns about last season’s ankle injury when he took off for second base and slid in safely with a stolen base. WHERE’S JOHAN: Johan Santana continues to make himself the big story at Mets camp and not for the right reasons. Today he was nowhere to be found on the field practicing with his teammates or in the locker room where his chair stood empty. It turns out he needs extra treatment for hi...

Captain America: David Wright’s Grand Slam Keeps Team USA Alive

What a night for Team USA and David Wright at Chase Field last night as they beat Team Italy 6-2 in the World baseball Classic. The difference maker was a tie-breaking grand slam off the bat of Wright that sent the crowd into a frenzy – and Twitter too. My tweet shortly after the blast said it all: Hell Yeah!!! David Wright + Grand Slam + Team USA = Captain America! — Mets...

Bobby Parnell continues to impress for Mets with another strong Spring

New York Mets closer of the moment, Bobby Parnell, is no stranger to having success in Spring Training.  The 28-year-old righty allowed just an unearned run in his inning of work against the Houst0n Astros on Saturday and over the past few Springs has compiled an impressive streak of 22 straight innings without allowing an unearned run (3 2/3 innings to end the Spring of 2011, 12...

Hefner Ready To Go If Santana Lands On DL

Do not read into Zack Wheeler’s demotion that the Mets think Jenrry Mejia will replace Johan Santana on the roster and in the rotation. When I asked Terry Collins of his preparation plans for life without Santana to start the season, the name Jeremy Hefner was only one to pop out. And, without hesitation. Collin McHugh, who was also demoted to the minor league camp, made...

Wheeler said he was disappointed, but not surprised. Was told at start of camp this would happen. With the cuts...

Mets360 2013 projections: Mike Baxter

Our final player to project is Mike Baxter. The local boy who made good, Baxter earned a permanent spot in Mets lore last year by running into a fence full speed to protect Johan Santana’s no-hitter. But the reality is that before he got injured, Baxter was having a terrific season. He had done such a terrific job as a pinch-hitter that he was growing into a bigger role on...

Lucas Duda, John Buck lead Mets over Astros 9-6

Lucas Duda and John Buck drove in two runs each and Ike Davis scored three times Saturday as the New York Mets beat the Houston Astros 9-6. Duda went 3 for 3 with a double, while Buck had two hits and increased his spring training RBIs total to seven. Davis was 2 for 2 with a walk, stolen base and a RBI. Houston's Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Mets starter...

2013 Mets Front Office and Organizational Moves & Promotions

The Daily News summarized what was a series of Mets organizational moves and promotions that took place during the offseason. Most of these moves flew under the radar, but are certainly worth noting. Many of these moves were made without much fanfare or official announcement, but they are in fact completed. Two and a half years in, and Sandy Alderson continues to structure his organization...

MMO Exclusive: Meet 2012 Draft Pick RHP Robert Whalen

In 2012, we saw Gavin Cecchini and Kevin Plawecki hog the spotlight as the first round picks and the most promising new members of the Mets minor league system. Behind them followed many new and talented players that came into the fold of the orange and blue. I was so excited as a fan last year, that I actually added as many players as I could to my personal twitter to see who would...

Nontrivial Conclusions From David Wright’s Grand Slam

David Wright came up to the plate last night in a tied game with the bases loaded and this happened: Something interesting happened there. David Wright was already seen as the captain of this USA’s team. Having the leader hit the go ahead grand slam is a huge deal. David Wright was clutch last night and as clutch is a difficult parameter to measure, what isn’t difficult to see...

D’Arnaud Pulled After Getting Plunked Below Right Elbow

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reported that Mets top catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud was removed from Friday’s game against the Detroit Tigers in the middle of the fifth inning after he was plunked below the right elbow by righthander Luke Putkonen. D’Arnaud stayed in the game, but was pulled after the inside of his right forearm tightened up on him. When leaving the park...

Who Wants To Be A Mets Outfielder? Part 14

The Mets took a long trip yesterday to play the Tigers and ultimately lost, but there were some positives to write about. On the pitching side, Gee logged 4 innings while allowing only one run. He needs to work on his control though as he walked three batters. Parnell and Hawkins both contributed a scoreless inning of relief. On the batting side, Cowgill continued to get on base...
