Byrnes

Eric Byrnes was released by the Seattle Mariners a week and a half ago after a bad series of events. To start, Byrnes was batting .094 with three hits in 32 at-bats. Matters grew worse when Byrnes pulled back on a squeeze play hanging his runner out to dry at the plate, and he compounded the mistake by taking a called third strike two days prior to his release. Byrnes had been released in the offseason by the Diamondback and Seattle picked him up to be a part-time player. Needless to say it wasn’t working out for Byrnes and he figured he was done with baseball after his release. Byrnes also indicated he would start playing slow pitch softball for the team “Dutch Goose” in Menlo Park in Northern California. Well Byrnesie was not messing around and he actually made his debut for Dutch Goose. Luckily for us, Pro Rumors was there to cover it. Here’s the Eric Byrnes softball video for Dutch Goose via Pro Rumors and Deadspin:

Byrnesie went 2-for-3 in the game with a pair of home runs, leading Dutch Goose to a 5-2 win over Vintage Construction. Yes, those are totally beer league softball names and Byrnes seems to be right at home. For the rest of the recap plus more photos, check out Pro Rumors.
