Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria showed off the leather three times in Baltimore's 7-4 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday. His first great play came in the top of the fourth inning, when with a runner on second and two outs, Brian Roberts grounded the third where Longoria dove and smothered the ball, throwing Roberts out from his knees to end the inning. His second awesome play came in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs and the bases empty, Adam Jones grounded to the third base side of the diamond, where Longoria once again fielded the ball and threw out Jones while sitting on the dirt. Finally in the top of the ninth, Matt Wieters hit a smash to third that Longoria fielded and managed to gun over to first from his knees to nab Wieters. You've also got to give some credit to Rays first baseman James Loney, who made some great scoops on Longoria's throws on all three plays. Those two are going to be fun to watch this year. It's also worth noting that on all three of those plays, Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar was in the vicnity of the play ready to field the ball in case Longoria couldn't grab it. Tampa Bay's infield defense sure is going to be fun to watch this year, especially when Ben Zobrist is at second base like he was for most of the game on Tuesday. [follow]
