The Bar: Everth Cabrera’s Hamstring

This is where we gather from time to time to talk about something big in the Padres world or just the Padres or just baseball. It’s a roundtable discussion. Except, you know, no round tables. This is a Public House . . . so we’re at the bar. Everth Cabrera has been fantastic this year but with his hamstring strained how do the Padres fill the void moving forward? Can they play...

Everth Cabrera Propelling San Diego Padres Up NL West

Lenny Ignelzi- AP Everth Cabrera has been the most valuable player in all of baseball during the last 30 days. Thanks to Cabrera’s strong performance through his last 27 games, the San Diego Padres are in the midst of a seven-game win streak and are quickly climbing up the NL West ladder. During his previous four stints in the majors, Cabrera has been an average hitter (if not...

Jesus Guzman Learns From His Gross Display of Exuberance

On Tuesday night Jesus Guzman hit a 2 run homer at AT&T Park to give the Padres a short lived lead over the San Francisco Giants. Hitting the HR was great. I mean, I thought it was great. I was excited. The problem with my excitement however was that it was more subdued than the excitement exhibited by Jesus Guzman as he broke into his HR trot. Let’s break down this ugly display...

Force-Ranking The Padres Roster

As much as I’d love for it to be, writing for Padres Public isn’t my main occupation. It really isn’t an occupation at all. By night I’m Nate from The Vocal Minority but by day and occasionally night I’m Nathan, retail manager. I wear an apron with a name badge and everything. This is what happens when you drop out of college. One of the things we do as managers that separates us...

While You Were Drinking: Game 70 (SD vs. SF)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. Last night the Padres won their 7th game in a row, defeating the Giants 5-3 in 13 innings. Recaps: Padres cash in with pitcher’s bunt in 13th – Corey Brock (mlb.com) Two up, two down: Padres 5, Giants 3 – Jeff Sanders (U-T San Diego...

Padres' Jedd Gyorko counting down the days to returning

San Diego Padres Rookie of the Year candidate Jedd Gyorko cannot wait to get back into the lineup. In fact, as MLB.com's Corey Brock indicates, Gyorko is counting down the days -- literally out loud. Brock notes that Gyorko walked around the clubhouse on Wednesday, June 19, proclaiming "six days" and counting -- multiple times. Gyorko went on the 15-day disabled...

Padres’ Will Venable makes game-saving diving catch

San Diego Padres center fielder Will Veneble saved the game Monday against the San Francisco Giants. In a tie game with two outs in the bottom of the 12th, Veneble had this diving catch off the bat of Juan Pierre. Had Veneble not made the grab, Brandon Belt, who was standing at second base, would have easily scored the game-winning run. After winning this game in the 13 innings,...

Video: Will Venable makes incredible game-saving catch for Padres

All knotted up at 3-3 between the Padres and Giants in the bottom of the 12th on Monday night, outfielder Will Venable strapped on his PF Flyers and reeled in an incredible catch to save the game for San Diego.

Royals and Padres need to Deal

by John Viril— The Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres are mirror images of each other. Kansas City stands 34-34 while the Padres are a half-game better at 35-34. Yet, they have achieved their success by completely different means. The Royals have just pulled back to .500 by preventing enough runs to keep an anemic offense afloat. Meanwhile, the Padres position players have...

TV Ratings: Padres Set Another Record on New RSN (Also: K.C. Royals, Confederations Cup)

The San Diego Padres set a new ratings record Tuesday — albeit with a small sample size. In other news, the Royals continue to scorch the ratings in Kansas City, and UniMás hit an eight-year [...]

While You Were Drinking: Game 71 (SD vs. SF)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking. Last night the Padres 7 game win streak came to an end as the Giants took game 2 of the series 5-4. They meet today at 12:45 for the rubber game: Eric Stults for San Diego and Madison Bumgarner for San Francisco. Recaps: Power rally not...

Benches clear in Padres-Giants game

Both benches cleared after Giants starter Madison Bumgarner threw a pitch behind Padres' first baseman Jesus Guzman in the second inning of their game Wednesday. Bumgarner's first pitch to Guzman sailed about belt-high, apparently in response to Guzman's excessive celebration after hitting a pinch-hit home run Tuesday night. Guzman jumped out of the way and then took...

Indoctrination 101: Naming Rights

There are certain areas of life where beliefs must be arrived upon using one’s own freewill. Padres baseball is not one of those areas. During the middle of last week I was notified by my wife and daughters that we would be buying two fish this summer as pets. I smiled with faux enthusiasm. The last fish we brought into our home came from a creek in Poway. We thought it was a tadpole...

Dodgers-Padres Preview

Although no one in baseball has issued more walks than the San Diego Padres' Jason Marquis, he hasn't lost in almost two months. Marquis goes for a ninth consecutive victory and fourth in a row over the Los Angeles Dodgers, who visit Petco Park for the first time since April's bench-clearing brawl Thursday night. After giving up a season-high seven runs in 4 2-3 innings...
