One of the most popular posts we’ve ever done is that of Hazel Mae, former MLB.com announcer.  For some reason, our readers really like to see pictures of Hazel Mae and many of you have asked as to where she is this season.  Well, we made the trip up north to see the Toronto Blue Jays play the Texas Rangers earlier this week.  We said we went to scout Yu Darvish, but we really went to see Hazel Mae’s pregame show. Here are exclusive pictures by BallparkBob of an expecting Hazel Mae on the set for Blue Jays Pregame from The Rogers Centre in Toronto. Hazel Mae is now a Blue Jays announcer   Hazel Mae doing the pregame show prior to the Monday, April 30 game vs. the Texas Rangers I know, I need to get an iphone that takes better pictures.  I have an old model.

Brandon Morrow emerging

Brandon Morrow of the Toronto Blue Jays has been wicked awesome (as they say a lot here in Maine). He has now thrown 20.1 innings of scoreless baseball and has won his last three starts. Naysayers will say, well two or three starts do not mean much in the grand scheme of things and his last two dominant starts have been against the Mariners and Angels--not exactly offensive juggernauts...

1/5th Farm Report

As has been my custom over the years, I review the Blue Jays farm system on a roughly monthly basis (last season i refined it to 1/5 of the minor league schedule in each report) making note of those individuals who are having a lot of success. Think of it as the "hot sheet" so to speak. The time is upon us for the first such report of the young 2012 season and so report...

Swinging Around The Rogers Centre with Yu Darvish

When we came out in preseason touting Yu Darvish thanks to watching YouTube videos of his pitching in Japan, many of you were skeptical that Darvish would rank as high as the 15th best pitcher in the league. So, we decided to see for ourselves and crossed the border to see Darvish pitch against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, April 30.  Darvish’s performance, much to the delight...

The Runs Will Come Out Morrow

I liked me some Brandon Morrow, but I’m thinking of the old Morrow (not Edward Murrow) that had no control and sat down hitters like he was a furniture salesman whose favorite line was, “Try it out.”  I talked briefly in our last podcast about Morrow.  Rudy tends to think Morrow is a new and improved pitcher.  I think Rudy’s standing too close to a newly-glued diorama...

Santana's solid outing spoiled in loss to Jays

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Henderson Alvarez pitched his first major league shutout with a six-hitter, Jose Bautista homered and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-0 on Friday night. Toronto handed Ervin Santana his sixth loss in as many starts this season and kept Albert Pujols homerless. Alvarez (2-2) threw just 97 pitches, striking out three and walking one. The...

Darvish shows he's an ace even in first loss

Sunday marked the one-month anniversary of the 2012 season for the Texas Rangers and we know plenty about the team. We know the Rangers are the best team in the American League West right now. We know they need both Adrian Beltre and Josh Hamilton to be healthy for the Rangers to be able to click on all cylinders offensively. We know the bullpen is very good. We also know that...

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched seven scoreless innings and the Cleveland Indians handed Yu Darvish his first major league loss in a 4-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-run double and Jason Kipnis homered off the Japanese star, who struck out a career-high 11 over six innings. Jimenez (3-2) walked four in the first three innings but settled down and permitted...

Why is it always the Yankees on national television?

Which game would you rather watch? The Yankees and the Royals or the first place Texas Rangers and the first place Cleveland Indians? The Rangers Yu Darvish is pitching against the Indians Ubaldo Jiminez? The Yankees Royals pitching matchup features two pitchers with ERA’s above 7.00: Hughes and Lochevar. Why is it always the Yankees on national television? Which game would you...

Box Score: Indians 4, Rangers 2

Well that was certainly nice to see. Ubaldo Jimenez gave up just two hits in seven innings (five walks, six strikeouts) and the Tribe bats did enough to give Yu Darvish his first major league loss. Jason Kipnis hit his fifth home run of the season and Asdrubal Cabrera had a 2-run double. Chris Perez pitched a scoreless ninth for his league high 11th save.   Final 1 2 3...
