It looked like it would be another typical Dodger loss. The pitching would have an outstanding performance, the offense would stagger, and another defeat would be logged into the standings. However, Russ Mitchell wanted none of that. Mitchell, who has the pleasure of joining the Dodgers thanks to the growing amount of injuries, knocked one out of the park with two out and Los Angeles down by one to tie the game in the ninth against the Chicago White Sox.
In the tenth, the Boys in Blue snapped out of their offensive funk, scoring three runs on five hits, including one double, and an intentional walk. Kenley Jansen threw two scoreless innings for the victory in relief of Ted Lilly, and Matt Guerrier, Scott Elbert, and Mike MacDougal each recorded an out in the tenth to close out the win.
Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Jamey Carroll had four hits and two runs scored. Jay Gibbons had two hits and a run batted in.
Jon Garland starts against his former team in Saturday’s matinee; Chicago sends Mark Buehrle.
