If you knew R.A. Dickey was going to have a big year in 2012, you are either a psychic or you’re simply not telling the truth.
How many of you thought R.A. Dickey would have more wins and strikeouts than Justin Verlander?
Coming into the 2012 season, Dickey had a lifetime won-loss of 41-50 and an ERA above 4.00. And, in every season since Dickey debuted in 2001, he had spent at least part of the year in the minors. And, at age 37, and a knuckleballer at that, its doubtful that Dickey went too high in your draft.
Dickey’s not knuckling under this year, however. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in the past 42.2 innings. He leads the MLB with 11 wins, and he has allowed only 21 walks in 14 starts. Those stats go along with an ERA of 2.00. He also leads the MLB in strikeouts with 103. Over his last 6 starts, he has 63 strikeouts and 5 walks. As if that’s not, enough, Dickey has become the first pitcher to pitch two consecutive one-hitters since 1988!
Dickey has great control. Ye...

R.A. Dickey and his high speed knuckler
The National League All-Star starter should be one the games most unique pitchers the game has seen in a long time. R.A. He has thrown 3 complete games this season and has thrown back to back one hitters with...
Darth Dickey:Slide Stopper
Once again Star Wars aficionado, RA Dickey not only pitched another one hit gem, but stopped the latest Mets skid.
Dickey has unquestionably become the Mets ace, and is presently 11-1 with a 2.00 ERA. Last night he stymied the upstart Baltimore Orioles by limiting them to one hit, a non-threatening single to right field by Wilson Betiment in the fifth inning, breaking up Dickey's latest quest
Dickey every fourth day? Worth discussing but seems unlikely
Over the last six weeks, R.A. Dickey has established himself as the best starting pitcher in baseball, stringing together one of the more successful runs of any pitcher in history. His specialty, of course, is the knuckleball, which puts far less stress on his arm than conventional pitches do. In theory, then, the Mets could use Dickey more often than once every five games, which...
Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix, June 19, 2012: Dickey Dazzles Again, Hill Cycles In Milwaukee
R.A. Dickey (credits below) It was another amazing night in the MLB landscape, a one hitter and a cycle. The RA Dickey story continues as he one hit the Orioles last night, the knuckle baller was dealing and came away with 13 K's. Dickey is ranked an amazing number 3 overall in the Yahoo! game, this is an incredible story, although now might be a wise time to sell high...
World, Yankees, prepare for no-hitter by R.A. Dickey
Yeesh. Coverage of the Subway Series’ upcoming marquee matchup – CC vs RA - is like watching a reality TV show from Death Row. Right now, if R.A. Dickey only throws a shutout, he’ll be a failure. Today’s NYT remembers the Hoyt Wilhelm no-hitter – last pitcher (a knuckleballer) to throw one against us (if you discount the team of Astros a few years back, which disgraced...
R.A. Dickey Just the Latest Bright Spot in Season That Was Supposed to Be Train Wreck for Mets
For a team that has made an art out of turning great players into no-names, of not leading high society but being bilked by it, and of finding new and creative ways to drop fly balls, the Mets are remarkably resilient. Each year, they break out the bats and balls again, and every few seasons they bring in something new to stir the fan base. But this year, the Mets looked as bad coming...
Dickey throws second straight 1-hitter in Mets' win
NEW YORK -- Immediately after R.A. Dickey completed his latest masterpiece Monday night, the Citi Field scoreboard flashed a picture of Dickey along with the phrase "Really Awesome." "Really Absurd" might be the better phrase. Dickey continued a dynamic run of pitching that almost defies description Monday by throwing his second straight one-hitter to lead...
R.A. Dickey Dominates the Orioles
After an impressive weekend where Jason Hammel and Wei-Yin Chen pitched back-to-back shutouts in down in Atlanta, they ventured up to New York to continue their interleague swing. The Orioles faced the Mets on Monday night, and the tables got turned on them in terms of their situation over the weekend. R.J. Dickey – who started for the Mets on Monday – has been on a roll...
BP Unfiltered: Knuckleballing to the Count by Dan Brooks
The knuckleball is a difficult pitch to hit because of its unpredictable movement. But few analyses have ever looked at another component of the knuckleball: its speed.
According to the man himself, R.A. Dickey varies the speed on his knuckleball according to the situation. But how much, and in what way? Is this a common feature of knuckleballers, or relatively unique to Dickey...
The Stratosphere
In my mind, the only way R.A. Dickey doesn't start the All-Star game for the N.L. after his second straight one-hitter (first time since Dave Stieb in '88), is if Tony La Russa all of a sudden decides he wants to manage to win the game and save Dickey for that tie game situation where he can enter the game in the 12th and go a million innings. La Russa would be dickish (no...
Fantasy Baseball 2012: Waiver Wire Watch
Welcome back to the Waiver Wire Watch. I’m sure I’m not the only person this week that is in complete awe of what R.A. Dickey has been able to do over his last two starts. Back-to-back one-hitters while striking out a combined 25 batters? Are you kidding me?
Dickey has been absolutely unbelievable this year, and it looks like the National League has a pretty good chance...
The Not-Quite-Midseason MLB Awards

OK, fellas, now I'm ready to talk about how a journeyman pitcher has taken over the world with the use of his trusty knuckleball. RA Dickey! What a story. As I mentioned on Monday, I just finished his autobiography last week and it is a really good book and story. He was molested multiple times as a child. He carried that burden for over 20...

Some Random Mets Thoughts On An Off-Day
Johan Santana
Someone grab a TV Guide and let me know if it’s sweeps season yet.
How can anyone explain what is going on with the 2012 New York Mets. Sweep, sweep, sweep followed by a sweep. The losses were not brutal but the Mets stomped the Rays and beat down the Orioles and got great pitching in both series’. R.A. Dickey even went back-to-back on one hitters. Mets manager...
