Scott Hairston was a man who came roaring into Port St. Lucie this past February with his intentions clear on being the 4th outfielder and a solid contributor to a questionable Mets club. After struggling mightily to begin the year both aspects of his game, Sandy Alderson reassured the media that Hairston's position on the club was secure--that he was a consummate professional who could contribute on both ends of the game.The Mets entered the top of the 9th inning tied 2-2 when Scott Hairston was announced as the pinch hitter.
