For the first time this season, the Miami Marlins are three games the .500 mark after a 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.    The win which was the second in a row for Miami also guaranteed the team would go a fifth straight series without coming up on the losing end.    The Marlins are now 20-17 and in a tie for third place in the National League East.

Mark Buehrle was not at his best in this game but battled through six innings and wound up with the win, his third of the season.    The Braves put together four runs on six hits against the veteran with three of those runs coming in the sixth inning.    Buehrle struck out four and walked only one while throwing 96 pitches.   Steve Cishek struggled allowing three hits while only retiring two batters but Randy Choate bailed him and the Marlins out of the inning getting the only batter he faced to line out to left field.  Edward Mujica worked a scoreless eighth setting up a ninth inning featuring Heath Bell.  It wasn’t a save situation but it was as close to one as possible and Bell did his job with a 1-2-3 inning.

Giancarlo Stanton continued his hot May with his eighth home run of the season in the seventh inning.  The two run blast to center field extended the Marlins’ lead following a Braves’ rally in the previous inning.   Austin Kearns who started in place of Logan Morrison had two doubles and knocked in a pair of runs as he continues to be an asset in a reserve role.   Emilio Bonifacio stole his twentieth base of the year and remained perfect on swipes.  Omar Infante had a pair of steals to give him four on the season.   The biggest steal came from Jose Reyes who stole home as part of a double steal, it was the tenth of the season for Reyes and the first steal of home in his career.

The Marlins will try to make it three wins in a row on Thursday when Ricky Nolasco is scheduled to oppose Brandon Beachy.
