Baseball America published its Top 20 Southern League prospect list today, and five Dodgers made the cut.10. Allen Webster12. Alfredo Silverio13. Nathan Eovaldi18. Chris Withrow20. Shawn TollesonI predicted yesterday Eovaldi would make the list for sure, with Silverio, Tolleson, Van Slyke and Rubby De La Rosa as potentials. I mistakenly omitted Webster and just didn't think Withrow was going to make it.I was surprised to see Silverio ranked so high -- ahead of Eovaldi, even. If these lists are any indicator to what the Dodgers' Top 30 could be like -- and that's not guaranteed -- maybe Silverio will be a Top 10 prospect. It'd be quite the jump for the toolsy outfielder.BA's lovefest with former first-round picks continues with Withrow. His 2011 season wasn't horrible -- certainly not any worse than his 2010 season, but he still needs to improve his command. He might be the 18th-best prospect in the Southern League, but he looks like he might be destined ...

Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw Were Golden In 2011.

2011 was a banner year for the Dodgers' two best players, Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw. These two gentlemen make up two-thirds of the backbone of my collection; they serve as the two guys I primarily seek out cards of, and I will even camp out to meet them, if the opportunity presents itself. Surprisingly, many of their hits have been affordable for much of the year, though...

The Los Angeles Dodgers turn down the 2012 option on Jon Garland

The Dodgers have turned down 32-year old righty starting pitcher Jon Garland’s option for the 2012 season valued at $8 million bucks. This was a very easy choice for the Dodgers as Garland is still recovering from right rotator cuff surgery. Garland pitched in 9 games (all starts) for the Dodgers in 2011 and he was 1-5 with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. He pitched in 15 games...

The Los Angeles Dodgers buy out Casey Blake’s option for 2012

The Dodgers have opted to buy out 38-year old righty swinging 3B Casey Blake for $1.25 million bucks instead of exercising his option for 2012 valued at $6 million bucks. This was a no-brainer for the Dodgers as Blake just couldn’t stay healthy in 2011. He played in 63 games for the Dodgers last year and he was 51 for 202 (.252 avg, .713 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 4 homers...

K/9 King Kenley

As others had pointed out in earlier posts and emails to us, Kenley Jansen's performance last year was an under-the-radar record-setting performance. In fact, Jansen now owns the major league record for strikeouts per nine innings (minimum 50 innings), with a K/9 record of 16.9. LOS ANGELES -- The season-ending buzz over Clayton Kershaw and Matt Kemp pretty much obscured the...

Judge Gross To Frank: No Discovery

Bill Shaikin unwinds the day's proceedings in the bankruptcy court case: No discovery of how MLB has treated the other 29 teams in the past. This is huge, not only because it reiterates the decision from last week (Frank's and Dodgers attorney Sid Levinson kept returning to ways to get discovery without actually using that word), but because it will speed matters along....
