LOUISVILLE, Ky. Ted Power knew nothing about Greg Reynolds when the pitching coach for the Reds' top farm team, the Louisville Bats, was first told about Reynolds prior to spring training. I didnt know any of his history or anything. I remember Mark Riggins hes our pitching coordinator I remember him telling me Youre going to love this guy. Hes got the pitchers body, the perfect build, he has a nice repertoire of pitches but I think he lacks confidence, said Power as he sat at his desk in his office at Louisville Slugger Field. I said, Great. Well see how things go. Things have gone pretty well for Reynolds. Better than even the 27-year-old hoped for, and better than Power, the Bats or the Reds couldve envisioned. Reynolds improved to 9-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.23 by pitching his first career complete game in a 2-0 shutout of Rochester last Friday night. Reynolds gave up just two hits and walked just two while striking out eight Rochester batters. Those a...

Hoping a day off fixes what ails the Reds

Yesterday, the Cincinnati Reds didn’t play baseball. At least, I assume they didn’t. With them being on their first west coast trip of the season, the games start so late that I could easily miss them. The Reds have been struggling lately, which is never how you want to see them when they’re heading out west. My, there’ve been some seasons lost out west. That won’t happen...

Mark Berry’s battle with cancer

The third base coach for the Cincinnati Reds, Mark Berry, was diagnosed with cancer during spring training. The treatment for the cancer in his left tonsils and lymph nodes was so strong that it forced him to take a leave of absence from his duties with the Reds. I’d been wondering how the treatment has been going, but there haven’t been many updates. Reds beat writer Mark Sheldon...

Delgado, D-backs look to finish sweep of Reds

If the Diamondbacks are to finish off their first home sweep of the Reds in 10 years, they likely must find a way to end Mat Latos' dominance at Chase Field. The D-backs will be looking to do both while trying to match a season high with their fifth consecutive victory and hand the Reds a fourth straight defeat Sunday. One night after Arizona (41-33) pounded out 15 hits in...

Shin-Soo Choo hit a leadoff home run and Brandon Phillips added a two-run shot in the first inning off Randall Delgado (0-1). That was plenty of offense for Latos (7-1), who allowed...

Series Preview: Oakland A’s Host Cincinnati Reds in Two-Game Interleague Set

The Oakland A’s will try to get back on track tonight against the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a short two-game interleague series in Oakland. Bob Melvin’s squad went 2-5 on a seven-game jaunt through Texas and Seattle, losing the final two games to the Mariners in particularly frustrating fashion.
