Former Philadelphia Phillies batting practice pitcher Ali Modami is suing the Philadelphia Phillies and has Ruben Amaro Jr named as a defendant on the suit. A copy of the suit is below but basically Modami alleges that Amaro told both Dodgers GM Ned Colletti and Nationals GM Mike Rizzo that Modami was fired from the Phillies for stealing and selling memorability. Dodgers first base coach Davey Lopes, a former Phillies coach, confirmed to Modami that Amaro’s statements are why the team didn’t hire him. Ugly situation for Amaro and the Phillies. MTR Philly will keep you updated as the case progresses.  The lawsuit that was filed: Ali Modami v. The Philadelphia Phillies; Ruben Amaro Jr. 11/5/2012 121100135 (Philadelphia State) Libel/slander. After terminating plaintiff’s employment with defendant Phillies as a Batting Practice Pitcher, defendant Amaro Jr. falsely informed Washington Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo that plaintiff was no longer employed by the Phillies becaus...

Can Ruben Amaro Jr. put the Phillies back together again?

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. will head to MLB’s GM meetings with a lot of work to do. The holes on his team have been well chronicled and after a very disappointing 81-81 season to forget, it is RAJ’s job to try to fill those holes and get the Phillies back on the winning side of the ledger. Amaro told CSN Philly’s Jim Salisbury that the Phillies have engaged in a significant...

Phillies Player Review: Chase Utley

Chase Utley's 2012 on-base percentage was 89 points higher than his replacements. How does Chase Utley do it? For the second straight year in 2012, chronic knee pain kept him out for much of the first half of the season. But just like 2011, once Utley returned, he was good to go every day. Utley returned in the Phillies 77th game, homered in his very first at-bat and proceeded...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: A Ruf October

Darin Ruf went south for winter ball in Venezuela, which started last month on the 11th and runs to almost Thanksgiving.  How has he done so far? TAL’S HANDY CAPS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: Note:  My articles are designed to represent a baseball-man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box.  Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the radar, the stick...

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Is Getting Sued

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr has been named in a lawsuit. Armed with just a street law degree, I found it interesting that Phillies fans could file a class action lawsuit against Amaro just because of the Ryan Howard extension and the Jonathan Papelbon contract. As it turns out, the lawsuit has little to do with Amaro's incompetence with a checkbook.Former batting...

Why I Love the Phillies – Robert

I love the Phillies because I grew up following the team. My late father was a Phillies’ fan and he was very excited when they were finally having a great season in 1950. He listened to the radio (and later TV) broadcasts of every game that took place when he wasn’t at work. I started rooting along as well, even though I was very young in 1950 (I was in the second grade). Then...

Upton Available; Odds Against Phillies

Upton to the Phillies doesn't seem possible. (AP) The Arizona Diamonbacks are once again shopping young, power-hitting outfielder Justin Upton in another effort to rebuild. There is a clear need for a game-changer in the Phillies outfield as questions still surround Domonic Brown, Darin Ruf, and John Mayberry Jr. The Phillies will be in the market searching for another option...

Analyzing The Phillies: Kyle Kendrick

Categories: BREAKING NEWS News PhilliesTags: Kyle KendrickPhillies2012 Expectations Kyle Kendrick was expected to be a valuable, versatile, reliable arm that could pitch in a variety of roles for the Phillies. The righthander was coming off of one of his best seasons as a pro, during which he posted an 8-6 record with a 3.22 ERA pitching as a starter and out of [...](Read more...)

Is the Phillies' New Name Revealed? The Reading "Fightins" Would Be a Good Choice

Courtesy Uncle Bob's Ballparks The other day Greg passed on a release from the Reading Phillies in which they discussed plans to change the team's name.  After a few days of mixed reactions from the fanbase, it appears that the team's name is coming out.  Last night on the Reading Eagle's website, Mike Drago identified the "Reading Fightins" as the likely...

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. in Talks with B.J. Upton's Agent

According to a report from CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury, the Phillies are in communications with free agent B.J. Upton's agent, Larry Reynolds. Upton is the ideal outfielder for the Phillies. The 28 year old, right handed hitter can play the field well, hit for power, and bring home runs, which is exactly what the Phillies' lineup needs in 2013. Without hitters like Hunter...

MLB Opinion: Should Phillies Pursue Pair of Former Mets Outfielders?

The Philadelphia Phillies have at least two holes to fill in their outfield for the 2013 season. Some combination of Domonic Brown, Darrin Ruf, John Mayberry Jr, Laynce Nix, and Nate Schierholtz should be able to adequately man one of the positions. Could the other two holes be filled with former division rival Mets Angel Pagan and Jason Bay? Angel Pagan seems like a no brainer as...

Phillies Sign Frandsen, Looking At Youkilis

At the current GM Meetings, Ruben Amaro seems to be communicating with quite a few people/teams.  Ruben stated that his three needs (CF, 3rd base, late reliever), has been in several trade conversations. Amaro has looked at free agency, but have been heavily involved in trade talks. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Phillies have been looking at third baseman Kevin Youkilis...

Phillies Notes: Ross, Herndon, Madson

Could Madson return to Philly? (PHOTO: NJ.com) -Cody Ross is expected to ask for a three-year, $25 million deal as he becomes a free agent. The Phillies are thought to be interested in the 31-year-old corner outfielder, who hit 22 home runs with the Red Sox, but splits much better against lefties than righties. I’ve been a big proponent of Ross to the Phillies, as he would provide...

Trade Idea- David DeJesus

The Phillies need outfielders.  They have some in-house candidates (John Mayberry, Domonic Brown, and Darin Ruf), but outside help is needed.  Free agents like BJ Upton, Angel Pagan, and Michael Bourn are all being floated as ideas, but they'll come at quite a hefty price tag and each have their own pitfalls. For example- "There are a lot of reasons to like Upton, but it...

Colletti: Trade for starting pitcher unlikely

INDIAN WELLS The Dodgers are probably unlikely to trade for a starting pitcher this winter and might have to address that need in the free-agent market, General Manager Ned Colletti said. Collettis assessment was based on conversations he had with other teams at the general managers meetings, which started Wednesday. Asked about what hes learned in the last 24 hours about the...

Markhas been able to translate his success as a big league hitter into his work ********* coach with the Cardinals, Colletti said.
