These tweets from Mets on-field reported Kevin Burkhardt should provide you with a pretty good idea of Fred Wilpons comments this morning with regards to the teams finances. To be fair, I can see why Wilpon would get frustrated having thrown as much money as he's had with minimal playoff success, but I don't believe him for half a second that that is why he reduced the payroll as he has.

I do agree with Kevin that the Mets future plans revolve around their young prospects and the hope that they can build around them. Its probably not a terrible plan, but its still a major change of course for a franchise that has annually been among the tops in baseball when it comes to payroll. Will see how these court case plays out next month, but I highly doubt the Wilpons are as financially secure as he made it out to seem today.

If you not already, follow Kevin on twitter at @KBurkhardtSNY. He doesn't tweet half as much as a lot of the other guys down there, but his tweets content driven and related to things we as fans care about.
