David Wright has been called “unclutch” during his Mets career. That may be the case overall, but that certainly wasn’t the case today, as ne belted an opposite-field, three-run homer that proved the difference in securing R.A. Dickey his 20th win of the season. It’s fitting that the Mets unofficial captain came through in a huge spot. The blast gave the Mets a three-run lead, and they wound up needing all three of those runs, since Jon Rauch gave up another ninth-inning home run. Despite all the talk, Wright’s home run further proves that he is the face of this franchise. Yes, it’s one hit in the scheme of things, but timing is everything. Getting Dickey his 20th win was really the only motivating factor for this team the last month or so. And with the game on the line, who came to rescue? The “captain.” I hope this Wright’s homer serves as a wake-up call to the front office that a long-term deal must be agreed upon fast. There are teams salivating to get their hands on Wright, ei...

David Wright Breaks All-Time Mets Record For Hits!

CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID WRIGHT! With an infield single in the bottom of the third inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates, David Wright surpassed Ed Kranepool to become the new all-time hits leader for the New York Mets. After breaking Kranepool’s mark with hit number 1,419 of his career, he added to that in his next at-bat with another single to put him at 1,420. Wright is...

Mets' Wright ties Kranepool for franchise record in hits

David Wright's long-term future with the New York Mets may be unclear, but his status as one of the best hitters in franchise history is not. Wright tied Ed Kranepool for the most hits in franchise history with two knocks in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Pirates. After blasting a solo home run in the first inning at Citi Field, Wright matched Kranepool's record with a...

David Wright sets Mets’ record

Long time New York Met David Wright, set the all-time hit record last night as the Mets went on to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0. Wright Sets Mets Hit Mark in Shutout Win

David Wright now stands alone on top of the Mets’ hits list and his goal to end the 2012 season on a high note is going pretty well so far. In the penultimate game at Citi Field this season, the Mets got seven shutout innings from Jeremy Hefner and their suddenly lively offense produced six runs to back him in a 6-0 win. The Mets have now won five of their last six games and have...

Wright takes over as Mets' franchise hits leader

It was about as ugly as a record-breaking hit can be. David Wright did not become the New York Mets' all-time hits leader with a booming home run or even a line-drive single. Instead, Wright finally passed Ed Kranepool with his 1,419th hit on a bleeder down the third-base line, which Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez could not glove in a 6-0 Mets victory. Wright later added a...

Wright Becomes All-Time Hits Leader, Mets Win 6-0

David Wright broke the Mets all-time hits record, and Jeremy Hefner pitched seven scoreless innings in the Mets 6-0 win Jeremy Hefner came out of the gate and had his game plan in full swing, dispatching hitters quickly and coaxing weak contact at any given chance. As opposed to Tuesday night when Colin McHugh was hit hard, Hefner was the polar opposite, striking out seven in seven...

Wright becomes Mets' hits leader in 6-0 victory

NEW YORK -- As time passes, David Wright expects to describe his record-setting hit a little differently than the one that actually put him atop the New York Mets' hit list Wednesday night. The ball the New York Mets third baseman struck to become the franchise's leader was one of the weakest hits on a night when his team busted out offensively. While he had no choice...

Pirates 10, Mets 6

NEW YORK -- David Wright tied the New York Mets' all-time hit record in style, driving in half of their runs Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as the Pittsburgh Pirates outslugged them. Pedro Alvarez homered and drove in four runs as the Pirates used a pair of big innings early to pick up a 10-6 win at Citi Field. Wright had three RBIs while hitting a homer and two-run single...

A fiscal discussion for the Wilpons

Met fans talk a big game.  We say that if the BLEEPITY BLEEPING owners don’t give Sandy Alderson the money to sign David Wright and other players, that we’re not watching a single game.  The truth of the matter is: If you are reading this blog… you care about the Mets too much to ignore them through a season.  The truth is that you’ll complain until every message board...

Mets Front Office Turned The Tables On The Players And The Fans

Would You Buy A Used Car From This Man? I was reading the excellent post by Joe D that was inspired by a statement from Metsie entitled, “Are The Players Turning The Tables On The Mets Front Office?” But I felt one key factor was missing from the summations made in the piece and on the comment thread that ensued. One chapter in Mets recent history that needs to be pointed out...
