Chicago Cubs Online:
According to Carrie Muskat, Todd Wellemeyer announced his retirement from baseball Saturday afternoon. Wellemeyer signed a minor league deal with the Cubs over the off-season that included an invite to big league camp. Wellemeyer made a couple off appearances in the Cactus League before a right hip injury caused him to shut it down.
Wellemeyer returned to the hill Thursday but struggled in Triple-A and allowed four runs on eight hits with two walks in 3 2/3 innings.
