"Front-Runners"

I know I'm a little late in responding to Jimmy Rollins' statements, but I was too wrapped up in the Olympics to notice at the time. For those of you that don't know, Rollins went on "The Best Damn Sports Show" and claimed that Philly fans are "front-runners." Jimmy, I love ya, but that was a dumb-ass thing to say. I get what you were TRYING to say. You were trying to say that Philly fans love you when you're winning and hate you when you're not doing well. That is true, and I'm not going to argue that. It's our passion that drives us to do that. But that is NOT the definition of a "front-runner." It is the definition of a "band-wagoner." And I'll say that 1/2 - 3/4 of Philly fans are band-wagoners. But we are not, NOT front-runners. If we were front-runners, we'd all be Mets/Yankees/Red Sox fans. Then you wouldn't have a team to play for because the Phillies would have packed up and headed to a different city. If we were front-runners, we'd all be Cowboys/Patriots fans. And yet at every Phillies game, inevitably, someone begins the E-A-G-L-E-S chant. If we were front-runners, I'd be a Red Wings/Devils fan. Mind you, I am the girl who had season Flyers tickets the year they had their worst season EVER. If we were front-runners, we'd all be Lakers/Celtics fans. Can I remind you how much this city HATES Kobe? Jimmy refuses to retract his statement. I'd be happy with an amendment. Call us band-wagoners, but don't call us front-runners. There's a huge difference. P.S. Philly fans got major accolades from the national crew covering the game on ESPN the other day. THANKS!
