Garrett Jones took some swings today at Pirate City. Garrett Jones took some swings at Pirate City this afternoon, rotating between the Triple-A and Double-A minor league games. The first baseman went 2-for-6 on the day, but most importantly hasn’t been feeling any pain from his oblique injury last week. After his six at-bats, Jones went to the batting cages where he took some batting practice with Travis Snider, who was also over in camp today. “I feel good,” Jones said after his day was complete. “Just right now getting some timing back. Just get back to game speed. But everything feels good. I’m getting ready for the season, and just getting fine tuned the next few days.” Jones missed some time with an oblique injury, getting shut down for about a week. That’s an injury which could set players back a month in more serious situations. Fortunately for Jones, the issue wasn’t nearly as serious, and the Pirates were just being cautious with the slugger. “It was very mild anyway, to begin with,” Jones said. “I probably could have kept playing, but it was just being on the cautious side and didn’t want it to turn worse or pull or a bad strain. I just took it easy for a few days and it healed up, and I’m back to 100 percent.” Jones returned to game action on Friday against Houston, playing first base and going 2-for-3 at the plate.
