Mets left-hander Garrett Olson was struck by a batted ball on his pitching hand during a Minor League game on Sunday. He suffered a contusion on the palm of his hand and was taken to a local hospital for precautionary X-rays, which were negative.
Olson was a strong contender to make the Mets as a reliever, and it’s not yet clear if this will pose any setback.
He has allowed one run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out three and walking one in seven spring appearances.
Here is a Twitter-cap of the rest of today’s Mets news and notes.
Adam Rubin tweets: Pedro Beato looks like he’s opening the season on the major league DL, not optioned to Triple-A. Shoulder still barking.
David Lennon tweets: Wright described himself as “50-50″ to play tomorrow in Jupiter. As for his progress, says he’s “cautiously optimistic. It’s a process.”
Anthony DiComo tweets: Mets like Adam Loewen’s power, but tough to envision him making team right now. Hasn’t gotten a hit in 8 games and looks shaky

Done Deal: Chris Young Signs Minor League Deal With Mets
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Mets have re-signed free-agent RHP Chris Young to a minor league contract.
Young won’t be ready to pitch until July at the earliest.

Adam Rubin is reporting that right-hander pitcher Chris Young is close to re-signing with the Mets on a minor league deal.
Young made four solid starts for the Mets last season...
Santana Slated To Throw 90-95 Pitches Today Against Cards
Johan Santana takes the mound today in a 1:05 PM start against the St. Louis Cardinals. Manager Terry Collins said Santana is expected to throw 90-95 pitches in the game.
In his last start, also against the Cardinals, Santana threw 69 pitches, 48 of them for strikes in what was his best pitched game of the spring. His impressive performance prompted Collins to say this:
“There...
Mets To Honor Gary Carter On Opening Day
The New York Mets will honor the memory of Gary Carter on Opening Day, Thursday, April 5 at Citi Field with his family participating in a special pre-game ceremony prior to the season’s opener against the Atlanta Braves at 1:10 p.m. Carter passed away February 16 after a courageous 10-month battle with brain cancer.
Gary’s wife, Sandy, son, D.J., and daughters, Kimmy and Christy...
Torres not progressing
Photo by Michael BaronAndres Torres straining left calf is not making progress and there is still no time frame on his return. With just a little over a week before opening day the Mets have to come up with an alternative plan. Even if Hairston was seen as an everyday center fielder, which I don't believe is the case they have to take it easy on him as he returns from his...
Chris Young and Mets Pitching Depth
The Mets brought RHP Chris Young back today on a minor league deal. Although Young had the same surgery last season that has sidelined Johan Santana for nearly two years, some reports optimistically have him back on the mound by late May. Again, we know all the depth issues the team has, which makes me wonder if they would also consider Andy Sonnanstine.
Sonnanstine is now...
Wright could play Tuesday?
David Wright, who is yet to play in a GrapefruitLeague game this spring due to a torn abdominal muscle, but did full pregame work with teammates on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon Wright took three at-bats of live batting practice followed by a regular session of batting practice, according to David Lennon of Newsday. Hitting coach Dave Hudgins — who did not travel with the club...
And then there was den Dekker. Mets centerfield position is wide open.
Matt den Dekker was called back to major league camp and is now getting a good look for an outfield spot. Captain Kirk better hope he fails because if den Dekker passes him on the depth chart he is going to be stuck.
den Dekker would not have been my choice. He is a centerfielder but he is not ready to hit in the majors yet. He made the jump to Double-A last year and struggled. Double...
Young close to returning on MiLB
Photo by Michael BaronAndy McCullough of the Star Ledger is reporting that the Mets should finalize a minor league deal with Chris Young by the end of the week. Young was excellent in his four starts for the Mets last year but it seems like an awful fast return from the same surgery Johan Santana had and took twice as long to return. It doesn't really impact them to bring...

Collins Seriously Considering Den Dekker
While speaking with reporters following the Mets loss against the Braves this afternoon, Terry Collins said that prospect Matt Den Dekker is a “legitimate consideration” for making the opening day roster.
Den Dekker is just 3-for-19 (.158) so far in spring, although two of his hits (double, triple) have gone for extra bases. He does have three walks already, however, he also...
Recap: Spring Training Game 20 - Ike Homers, Pelfrey Gets Rocked as Usual, Mets Tie Cards in 10 innings

Another Day Another Met Goes Down
It’s getting hard to even keep up with the injuries at this point. But yet another Met goes down. Jason Bay was hit by a pitch from Strasburg, he’s lucky he still has an arm. As of now, we’re to believe Jason Bay just has a bruised forearm.
If the Mets were to lose Jason Bay, I don’t think anyone would even care at this point. It sucks that he came to NY and can’t hit anymore...
Cardinals, Mets play to 10-inning tie
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- Ike Davis and Lucas Duda each hit home runs as the New York Mets' tied the St. Louis Cardinals 6-6 in 10 innings Saturday.
It was the first homer for Davis, who was diagnosed earlier in spring training with what is likely valley fever, which can cause extreme fatigue. Davis hit a three-run shot off Lance Lynn in the first.
Cardinals center fielder...
Cardinals can't get past Mets
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- David Wright singled and made a fine fielding play in his first spring training game, helping the New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 Monday.
Wright had missed the entire Grapefruit League schedule because of a torn abdominal muscle. He lined Jake Westbrook's full-count pitch into left field in the first inning. He grounded out to short in the...
Looks like Batista makes the team
Photo by Michael BaronIt seemed likely that Miguel Batista was making the team since they seemed to like his veteran leadership in the pen, along with providing decent innings since joining the organization. Now with D.J. Carrasco more then likely be starting the season on the DL, Batista seems to be a lock for the roster. Batista making the team will cost someone their 40 man roster...
