Anthony Giansanti slugged a two-run double off the CF Batter's Eye to cap a three-run 1st inning and Ryan McNeil and three relievers combined to throw a shutout, as the AZL Cubs whitewashed the AZL Diamondbacks 3-0 in Game #1, and then Giansanti hammered a lead-off walk-off HR off the base of the scoreboard in the bottom of the 7th that gave the Cubs a 1-0 victory in Game #2, as the Cubs took both ends of a twilight-night doubleheader at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, AZ this evening.  Game 1 box score Game 2 box score The versatile multi-positional (C-1B-3B-RF-LF) Giansanti is on a rehab assignment from Peoria, after being placed on the Chiefs DL with a sprained ankle last month. He played 3B in Game #1 and 1B in Game #2 tonight, and with the depletion of the AZL Cubs roster in recent days and weeks thanks to call-ups and injuries, having Giansanti in the lineup (even if he is a "ringer") is just what the Cubs need right now.   Two position-players from DSL Cubs #1 have al...

Cubs fan lands on head, loses chunk of scalp

Ouch. That’s gotta hurt. Leaving a chunk of your scalp on the playing surface while trying to snag a souvenir ball? So bad on so many levels. Although the video does not provide the precise date and game during which this Chicago Cubs fan went all topsy-turvy, chunk-of-hair-losey, it’s reasonable to surmise that it occurred during the [...]

Take Me Out To The Cubs Game: A Short Story

He grew up a Cubs fan just like his dad did. As a kid his dad would sit him down in front of the TV, turn on WGN and the two of them would spend a summer day with Harry Caray. It was a ritual as a kid, but then he got older and friends and girls and other things got in the way. He grew up and he didn't watch as much Cubs baseball with his dad as he used to. During his time with the Twins, Walbeck, a catcher, played in 275 games, the most he played for any team during his 11-year major league career. He batted .230 with 103 RBI and eight home runs during those three seasons. After breaking into the league in 1993 with the Chicago Cubs, Walbeck was traded to Minnesota...

Below are some notes on same. Please note: none of what follows constitutes Official Prospect Analysis. Regarding Miguel Sano and Jorge...
