Carlos Ruiz scored from an 84th-minute penalty to help Guatemala to a 3-3 draw against Paraguay in an entertaining friendly Wednesday.
Ruiz also earned an earlier penalty that Marco Pappa converted, and Manuel Leon scored in Guatemala's first positive result in three matches against Paraguay this year.
Hernan Perez, Jonathan Fabbro and Oscar Cardozo scored for Paraguay during a match it led twice. Guatemala also held a lead late in the first and early in the second half.
In a warm up for September World Cup qualifiers, the two nations played their highest scoring contest in 11 meetings.

In three starts since joining the Phillies organization, Martin has posted a 3-0 record with a 2.08 ERA while striking out 13 and walking...

Jimmy Rollins atoned for his lack of hustle from the prior battle, but other shortcomings on the Philadelphia Phillies extinguished the fire. How are they winning series mostly against contenders with this offense?

Josh Johnson set to battle Phillies
After snapping a lengthy skid to an NL East rival, the Philadelphia Phillies have a chance for their longest win streak in nearly three weeks.
The Phillies, though, might need a better performance from Kyle Kendrick if they want to earn their third straight win Tuesday night against a slumping Miami Marlins lineup.
Philadelphia (53-62) ended a five-game losing streak to Miami with...
Record-Setting Night Highlighted by Solid Pitching
There was an awful lot going on in last night’s 1-0 Phillies win over the Marlins. And it all began with just the second pitch of the game which Jimmy Rollins sent screaming over the right field wall for the 41st lead-off homer of his career.
That turned out to be the only run of the game, which was also a record-setting game for Rollins. He picked up his 1,731st game at shortstop...

Hope is Gone, Phillies spanked by Marlins, 9-2
Make no mistake: They are playing out the string toward an October without postseason baseball in Philadelphia for the first time in six years. The Phillies were trailing by one when the eighth inning began, and Manuel summoned righthander B.J. Rosenberg, who had an 8.53 ERA in six appearances.
By the time the inning mercifully ended, Miami had sent 10 men to the plate and scored...
Pregame: Phillies Start Up Series Against the Brew Crew
Any series win is a good one at this point but wow, was yesterday's game painful. Save for Halladay who threw a half decent seven innings, the team just looked asleep, highlighted by the talk of the town today that Rollins could have spun the wheels a bit harder. I don't know. I can't get worked up about stuff like that in a lost season. It looked like Pierre was...
Cole Hamels throws his second straight shutout as the Phils defeat the Marlins, 4-0.
Cole Hamels throws his second straight shutout against an NL Eastern Division opponent as the Phils beat the Marlins, 4-0.
The Phils took the lead in the third as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Chase Utley hits an RBI double, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier singled, then stopped at third base on Juan Pierre’s single, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead,...

Do me a favor, and don’t look at today’s lineup. You’ll think you’ve jumped in the hot tub time machine back to March. It’s a Clearwater lineup, and an ugly one...
Daily Fantasy Baseball must starts: Thursday August 16th
In honor of football season nearing, we’ve got players from New York and Milwaukee, not Eli Manning and Aaron Rodgers, that will provide great value in daily fantasy baseball leagues. Value Plays: Milwaukee Brewers – I still believe Cliff Lee is an élite pitcher, but he hasn’t proven it this season and is unlikely to do so against [...]

Kendrick (5-9) struck out six and allowed five hits to improve to 9-2 against the Marlins in his career. Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 26th save in 29 chances by pitching a scoreless ninth after Josh Lindblom pitched the eighth. Jimmy Rollins...
