The last thing Jason Vargas wanted was to be traded, so he was all smiles after the non-waiver trade deadline came and went Tuesday and he was still a Mariner. The Seattle left-hander went out and celebrated by scoring his fifth win in July, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2. Vargas threw seven innings, allowed five hits and two runs and struck out four. He struggled through the third inning, then retired 10 batters in succession. Vargas finished July with a 5-0 record and a 1.64 ERA in six starts. "We've been playing really well, and I think, with most of the pieces still in place, it shows a lot of confidence in what we're trying to do," Vargas said with the Mariners making no trades on the last day non-waiver deals were possible. He, fellow starter Kevin Millwood and infielder/outfielder Chone Figgins were rumored to be trade possibilities. "To be a part of (this team) is great for me," Vargas said. The Mariners have won a season-best six g...

Who’s hot, who’s not?
The Seattle Mariners had a very good week. Taking on the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals seemed to be a blessing as the team went 5-2 on the week. Of course 4 of those wins came against the Royals, but who cares? The Mariners are WINNING!
Ok enough of my over-enthusiasm and back to Earth.
The Mariners outscored their opponents 28-22 this week. This...

The deal went down late Monday night.

The Mariners weren’t able to make a big splash at this year’s trade deadline, but with the way the club is structured and the type of players that he covets, General Manager Jack Zduriencik will likely be better served in trying to make that blockbuster deal over the winter. SeattleClubhouse takes a look at what such a deal could look like.

Simple point: I loved Eric Thames from the day he was drafted and i will continue to follow his career but, ultimately, he's probably just a guy. In terms of actual baseball accomplishments. Think of, say, Jacob Brumfield (not making a direct comparison, just speaking of the sort of carer that seems likely). We dealt him for another "just a guy" type of player. no need...
