Very little about this Washington Nationals season has unfolded as expected. Four days from August they sit three games under .500 and 81 / 2 games back of first place in a weak National League East. Their talented lineup has dragged down the rest of the team. Mediocre opposing pitchers have baffled Nationals hitters. One of their biggest offseason acquisitions a leadoff hitter is no longer their everyday leadoff hitter. Their highest-paid pitcher is enduring one of the worst seasons of his career. On Saturday after a busy and eventful week the Nationals flipped several season-long trends on their heads in a 4-1 win over the New York Mets. The offense erupted for three home runs including a two-run shot by Bryce Harper. The lineup finally solved middling Dillon Gee after poor hitting displays against him all season. Denard Span snapped a long four-month power drought with his first home run of the season. Dan Haren tossed seven strong innings another encouraging development in his ...

Nats reliever rips management

Washington relief pitcher Tyler Clippard blasted the Nationals' management for the way they have handled fellow reliever Drew Storen.

Nationals send Drew Storen to Triple-A Syracuse

Cruel, cruel, summer: Nationals send Drew Stroren to Triple-A Syracuse. "This is what's best for him. He'll probably have a hard time coming to grips with that. But it is the best thing for him." (Davey Johnson, via Nats Insider, 7/26/2013) And if Storen's father wasn't happy with the Nationals bringing Drew in for mop-up duty during the...

Washington Nationals options at the trade deadline

As the month of July winds down, the trade deadline is now only a few days away. At this time of the year most teams are grouped into one of two categories, buyers, or sellers. The Washington Nationals however, fall somewhere in the middle. Currently sitting 8.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East standings, any sort of a rental player does not seem like a viable option...

Washington Nationals ‘Zimharpanmos’ jersey is best of the worst custom jersey ever

A Washington Nationals fan was spotted wearing this jersey with the names of four Nationals players on the back of his custom jersey (Ryan Zimmerman, Bryce Harper, Denard Span and Wilson Ramos). Not only that, the No. 6 jersey belongs to Anthony Rendon. This is one way to give all your favorite players their love all at the same time. It would be way more interesting if this guy...

Nats tried to sign SS Desmond long-term this spring & will try again

The Nationals made a run this spring at trying to lock up star shortstop Ian Desmond but didn't reach an agreement Nats-connected sources said. While nothing appears imminent at the moment with talks apparently stopping once the season began the Nats still hope to keep Desmond who's had a very nice year and barely missed making the All-Star team a second time with an extension...

Nationals' Bryce Harper day-to-day with knee soreness

Washington Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper left the first game of Friday's double header with the New York Mets in the fifth inning with a sore left knee. Harper landed hard on the knee after sliding to make a catch off the bat of Daniel Murphy. He made the catch and stayed in the game initially. He singled in the eighth inning but left for a pinch hitter after pulling...

WATCH: The Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman delivers a game winning home run, walkoff style

It has been a tough season for the Washington Nationals this season, stumbling to a 50-54 record with only 58 games left in the season. Game 2 of a day night doubleheader against the New York Mets brought something to get the team motivated. In the bottom of the 9th inning, game tied 1-1 and a 3-1 count (one out), Ryan Zimmerman awaited the pitch from Mets reliever LaTroy Hawkins...

Ryan Zimmerman homered with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night, lifting the Washington Nationals to a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets for a doubleheader split. In the opener, Jenrry Mejia pitched seven scoreless innings in his season debut and Daniel Murphy homered twice and tied a career high with five RBIs as Mets won 11-0. Nationals 14, Mets 1

Wilson Ramos hit a grand slam and rookie right-hander Taylor Jordan had six strong innings for his first major league win to lead the Washington Nationals to a 14-1 rout of the New York Mets on Sunday. The Nationals won their third game in a row and fourth in five to salvage a tumultuous 11-game homestand. They lost the first six games after the All-Star break, fired hitting coach...

Nats Walk Off Again As Zimmerman, Ohlendorf Best Mets’ Harvey

It was shaping up to be a pretty embarrassing day. The Washington Nationals (50-54) had scored only one run over almost 18 innings of a double-header against the unimposing New York Mets (50-54), and were facing the possibility of falling to a tie for fourth place in the National League East. But then Ryan Zimmerman saved the day. Reminding Washington why they call him...
