Mets 4, Phillies 3 The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 tonight at Citizens Bank Park to open their three game series. The Mets have won five of their last seven games. Jeremy Hefner started and after a rough second inning that saw him give up three early runs, he settled down and held the Phillies scoreless for the next four innings while the Mets battled back to take the lead. His final line was 6.0 innings pitched, three runs, two earned, ten hits, one walk and six strikeouts. He still pitched a quality start and lowered his ERA to 3.89 on the season and picked up his second win. Scott Rice and Carlos Torres each pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh and eighth, and  Bobby Parnell came in to close it out in the ninth for his 12th save of the season. The Mets got on the board in the top of the fourth when the hot-hitting David Wright singled to left to bring home Eric Young Jr. Young would tie it up in the fifth with his second hit of the game, a two-...

Featured Post: Is Juan Lagares The Mets’ Center Fielder Of The Future?

For a majority of you who visit this site, you watch too much baseball. How else would you describe watching the Mets day-after-day? The more you watch, the more you become desensitized. Most plays start to seem ordinary. That tends to happen to me. I got a chance to watch yesterday’s 4-3 win against the Phillies with a friend of mine. She hardly watches baseball. She couldn...

Has Jeremy Hefner Been (Un)Lucky?

Jeremy Hefner pitched six innings of strong baseball in Philadelphia on Friday night to help propel the New York Mets to a 4-3 victory over their National League East rival Philadelphia Phillies. Hefner allowed three runs, two earned, on 10 hits while striking out six in the process. Friday’s start marked his sixth consecutive start in which he allowed three earned runs or less...

The pros and cons for Jeremy Hefner

With Jonathon Niese going on the disabled list, the Mets’ decision on which pitcher to drop from the rotation was delayed. That’s good news for Jeremy Hefner and Shaun Marcum, the two leading candidates to be removed. Let’s take a minute to look at the pros and cons for Hefner remaining a starter, if and when Niese returns this season. The biggest pro for Hefner is his recent...

Shaun Marcum Should Get Booted From The Rotation, Not Gee/Hefner

In 1962 it was Bob Miller, in ’93 it was Anthony Young, and now in 2013 there is Shaun Marcum. With last night’s unsightly loss to the Braves, Marcum now holds the third worst record to start a season in franchise history at 0-9. Granted that he hasn’t exactly had a great deal of run support behind him, the 31-year old hasn’t held up his end of the bargain all season long...

The Phillies were blown out and shutout by the New York Mets, 8-0. They lost the series, 1-2. Another Error Starts Another Mets Rally In the fifth inning, Juan Lagares sent a fly ball to centerfield. It looked to be an easy catch for Ben Revere, but the ball was dropped. Actually, it was only ruled a drop by the second base umpire. The replay showed that Revere indeed made the catch...

Best Laid Plans Of Mice And Braves

"If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans." -Woody Allen The plan was that one of Shaun Marcum or Jeremy Hefner would be the one to leave the rotation. But that was before Jon Niese's tendonitis flared up again like it was a bout of hemorrhoids. His performance over the first three and a third innings was your first clue that something was wrong as he...
