The Los Angeles Dodgers have been doing just fine, thank you very much, without MVP candidate Matt Kemp. So far. The Milwaukee Brewers, on the other hand, apparently miss Prince Fielder very much.
So it's two teams headed in opposite directions at the moment and with very tight MLB odds as LA hosts Milwaukee for a four-game series at Chavez Ravine starting Monday night.
LA just took two of three games from the Houston Astros over the weekend, falling 3-1 Friday night but winning 6-3 Saturday and 5-1 Sunday. So the Blue Crew, at a Major League-best 32-15, leads the NL West by 7.5 games over second-place San Francisco.
Milwaukee, meanwhile, just dropped two of three games in Arizona over the weekend, winning 7-1 Friday but losing 8-5 Saturday and 4-3 Sunday. So the Brew Crew, at 19-28, sits in fifth place in the NL Central, eight games back of division-leading Cincinnati.
Milwaukee will send Shaun Marcum (2-3, 3.93) to the mound for Monday's series opener (8:10 pm Eastern) against Aaron Harang (3-2, 4.36) for Los Angeles. Then Tuesday (10:10 E) a couple of rookies are slated to go at it as Mike Fiers opposes Nathan Eovaldi. Wednesday (10:10 E) should be a good one as Yovani Gallardo (3-4, 4.19) will go against Clayton Kershaw (4-2, 1.97). Finally, Zack Greinke (5-2, 3.66) will get the start Thursday (10:10 E) for the Brewers vs. Chad Billingsley (2-3, 3.88) for LA.
Most online sportsbooks are listing the Dodgers as -110 favorites for Monday's game, with an 'over/under” of 7.5.
Bovada.lv is chalking LA at -170 to win this series, based on the first three games, with Milwaukee getting +140 as the dogs.
Milwaukee is 7-3 in Greinke's starts this season, but 4-6 for Gallardo and 2-7 for Marcum.
The Dodgers are 7-3 in Kershaw's starts, 6-4 for Billingsley and 5-4 for Harang.
Los Angeles is 9-4 without Kemp and averaging nearly five runs per game. Last year's NL MVP runner-up is eligible to come off the DL Tuesday, and could return for the last part of this series.
LA is a ML-best 21-5 at home this season, while the Brewers are a dismal 8-15 on the road.
Back in April Milwaukee took two of three games from the Dodgers at Miller Park. Two of those three games played 'under' on the totals.
