The Red Sox won 3-for-4 in Kansas City in mid-August.No one had a huge series, but there were some great single game performances. Pedey went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI in game 1. Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI in game 2. Carl Crawford went 2-for-4 with an RBI in game 3. Darnell McDonald closed out the series going 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Of course none of that matters, and a series win this season will be huge for the Sox.

This time

Laser Show: David Ortiz

I'm going off of Ortiz's ability to hit lefties. I like his chances against the southpaws in this series. Ortiz has not done well against Chen in his career and is 0-for-1 against Sanchez. He is 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles against Duffy to even out the score. This is a different David Ortiz and I think he will be thrilled to face left-handed pitching.
Pitch Around: Mike Moustakas

Moustakas is swinging the best bat for the Royals thus far. 14 of his 29 hits have been extra-base hits, which will make for an interesting time for Sox pitching.

Don't Fall Behind: Danny Duffy

The better of the 3 pitchers going for the Royals in this series. Duffy will have the Sox guessing more than Chen or Sanchez, but could crack if the Sox can make him work.

How we see it goin' down

The Royals suck at home and the Sox are much better on the road. Boston should have the upper hand but will not sweep. The Sox will get a much needed series win with a tough loss mixed in.

Felix Doubront's High-Wire Act Pays Off With Bullpen Spared Dangerous Workload by Slimmest of Margins (Video)

Felix Doubront needed to come up big for the Red Sox after their bullpen was exhausted over the weekend. He came up just barely large enough. Doubront collected career highs in innings pitched and pitches thrown on Monday, but the Red Sox needed every last one of them to bridge the time to Vicente Padilla and a dramatic seventh-inning escape. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is giving...

Daniel Bard Takes Loss Despite Working Deep for Red Sox (Video)

Daniel Bard went deep into the game again in Tuesday night's loss but failed to flummox the Kansas City batters. Bard left in the eighth inning and ended up taking the loss after the Royals hit a three-run homer, scoring two men that Bard left on base. But the young starter did give the bullpen a bit of a breather. See what he has to say about his outing during Clubhouse Uncut.

Recap: Unsteady Bard can't hold lead, falls to Royals

The Sox dropped to 12-17 after blowing a 4-3 lead on a Billy Butler home run, and couldn't claw their way back against closer William Howard Taft Jonathan Broxton. Daniel Bard pitched a solid seven innings, but unraveled in the 8th, by putting on the go-ahead run before being replaced by Matt Albers in a one-run ballgame. Albers tried to put a fastball in on Butler's hands...

Duffy stays grounded during trials of baseball

The radar gun loves Danny Duffy. It loves him the way the camera loves Kate Upton. He throws a ball that cracks when it hits the catchers mitt, the sound of leather struck by lightning. According to FanGraphs.com, among starters whove logged at least 20 innings, the fastball velocity of the Royals left-hander is tops in the American League (95.3 miles per hour, on average), and...

Red Sox Live Blog: Daniel Bard Looks to Get Sox Streaking Against Royals

8 a.m. ET: With Monday's win over the Royals (9-19), the Red Sox (12-16) snapped their five-game losing streak and are starting the uphill climb back to .500. The team will look for pitcher Daniel Bard to carry the torch in the second game of the three-games series against the Royals. In Bard's last start against the Athletics, he wasn't quite as sharp as he's proven...

Kansas City, Where Wins Are Pretty

Daniel Bard gets the ball tonight against young Danny Duffy, who might be a little better than his record suggests. This series is must-win. I'll stop short of must-sweep, but the Sox have to win at least two of these games. Cleveland's next, and they're a lot better, so the Sox need momentum It will be interesting to see if Cleveland's new acquisition, a young fellow...

Kelly Shoppach Amazed He Legged Out Triple, Calls Felix Doubront 'Goofy' (Video)

Kelly Shoppach has been showing off some of his speed this season. Earlier in the season, the veteran catcher stole the first base of his career on a rumbling, bumbling, stumbling effort into second base. On Monday night, Shoppach recorded another first with his feet. The 32-year-old catcher let off a shot over the left fielders head in Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium in the Red...

Red Sox News & Notes - 5/9

One big fat meatball pitch from Matt Albers was the final difference from keeping Daniel Bard from picking up his second win as a starter for the Boston Red Sox and third overall this season last night in Kansas City. Look, I'm not going to bash Albers at all even with him serving up a three-run homer to Billy Butler that gave the Kansas City Royals the 6-4 win. The Red...

Red Sox Bullpen Needs Some Time Off to Recover After Marathon Effort, Busy Weekend Series (Video)

The Red Sox bullpen was taxed on Monday, but they're not catching a break anytime soon. Boston's in the midst of a 20-day, 20-game stretch that continues against the Royals, so they won't be getting any rest unless the starting rotation can provide it for them. Felix Doubront will have to be that guy on Monday with the Sox in Kansas City, which might also be a good thing...

Red Sox 11, Royals 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Will Middlebrooks hit two home runs and drove in five runs, while Felix Doubront gave the Boston Red Sox what they needed most -- innings from the starting pitcher -- in an 11-5 victory Monday night over the Kansas City Royals. Doubront (2-1) went 6 1/3 innings, the longest outing of his career, to save an overworked Red Sox bullpen. He yielded five runs, four...

Red Sox Stunned by Billy Butler's 'Opposite of Clutch' Home Run, Suffer Stomach-Punch Loss (Video)

Things were looking pretty good for Daniel Bard and the Red Sox until they weren't. Bard allowed a couple of baserunners in the eighth inning, then Matt Albers gave up a three run home run to Billy Butler and all of a sudden the Red Sox had lost. Add a Will Middlebrooks injury of unknown magnitude on top of that, and you're looking at a bummer of a baseball game. NESN Nation...

Balky

Last night, Daniel Bard was called for two balks in the same inning. How rare is this? Only one other Sox pitcher, Clay Buchholz, has one this year. The entire Yankee staff has one balk (Sabathia). The entire Tampa Bay team has one (Shields).Baltimore has none, and Toronto has none, as of last night. (All figures from Baseball Reference.)A while back, MLB made some sort of announcement...

Butler's 3-run homer helps Royals beat Red Sox

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Boston Red Sox have moved Daniel Bard from the bullpen, where he was very effective last year, to the rotation. For seven innings against the Kansas City Royals it looked like a wise decision, but a tiring Bard opened the eighth inning by walking Jarrod Dyson and Alex Gordon. That was manager Bobby Valentine's cue to bring in reliever Matt Albers, who...

If there's one thing that's become perfectly clear when it comes to the Red Sox this season, it's that you never quite know what you're going to see on any given night. The Red Sox kicked off their series in Kansas City with an 11-5 victory on Monday night, which served as a good sign considering Boston had just lost five in a row, including three straight to the...

Royals 6, Red Sox 4

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Billy Butler hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning as the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 6-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox Tuesday night. Butler homered off Matt Albers, who replaced Daniel Bard after Bard walked Jarrod Dyson and Alex Gordon to leadoff the inning. Butler hit Albers' third pitch out to left-center. He leads the Royals with six home...
