Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro was wanted for questioning Friday following claims he sexually assaulted a woman he met at a Chicago nightclub in September, according to multiple reports. Chicago police are investigating an allegation that Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro sexually assaulted a woman last fall. The 21-year-old Castro has not been charged with a crime, and police otherwise declined comment. "It's an ongoing investigation," Officer John Mirabelli said Friday. Castro was unavailable for comment, but his attorneys said the allegation is false...

Alfonso Soriano On The Block

Theo Epstein isn’t done dealing if you believe what he said this afternoon. Hours after the Carlos Zambrano trade was finished the new general manager said he’d be willing to pursue other trades if they “made sense”. Most would assume this means Matt Garza but no today’s rumors surround outfielder Alfonso Soriano. Hours after the Cubs announced the...

Hate To See You Go, Zambrano

The Chicago Cubs are trading Carlos Zambrano to the Miami Marlins (that still sounds weird) for Chris Volstad. The Cubs are going to pick up all but $2.5 million of Zambrano's salary, which basically cancels out Volstad's salary for the Marlins. I don't understand this move for the Marlins. They are losing the years of control they have over Volstad, a younger pitcher...

Theo Epstein was prepared to cut Carlos Zambrano, if necessary

Cubs president Theo Epstein said he wasn’t trying to make a particular point when he traded Carlos Zambrano to the Miami Marlins for a choirboy this week. “You don’t have to be a choirboy to be accepted into the Cubs’ clubhouse,’’ Epstein said after the trade became official Thursday. But in making what promises to be the signature move of his first winter with the Cubs...

Hoyer Loves Him Some Rizzo

Jed Hoyer's stay in San Diego as their General Manager was short (hired by the Padres in October 2009), but far from uneventful.  The most notable move made in Hoyer's era as the GM of the Padres was dealing Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox in December 2010 for a package of prospects that included first baseman Anthony Rizzo.  Just a few short months after being hired by...

Swapping Prospects

The Cubs send pitching prospect Andrew Cashner to the Padres for Anthony Rizzo: The Cubs also acquired pitching prospect Zach Cates, 22, a right-hander Cubs executives Hoyer and Jason McLeod drafted in 2010 while with the Padres – paying him over-slot bonus money to sign him after signability concerns dropped the coveted pitcher to the third round. Cates went 4-10 with a 4.73...

Here's the latest from the NL Central... Cubs GM Jed Hoyer wants to add more depth to his pitching staff, reports MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.  "At this point, we're still very much in the process of gathering as many quality arms as we can, and we'll put those pieces in place as we get closer to Spring Training," Hoyer said.  "We have worked hard...
