Found October 02, 2009 on Another Cubs Blog:
the Cubs would be in 1st place at 93-66, two games ahead of the Cardinals who are 91-68. The three of them were projected to be worth a total of 12.1 wins and have only been worth 0.8. Soriano projected: 3.9 WAR (-0.9) Soto: 4.9 (1.2) Fontenot: 3.3 (0.5) With two games left, the Cubs would have likely won 94 games. They were projected to win 91 to 92 games. There are certainly other players who didn’t play as expected, but none of them compared to these 3 players. These things happen. I’m not trying to say it’s their fault, because it’s just not that simple. Keep this in mind next time you read some article or listen to some dumbass fan about how Milton Bradley ruined this team. Contrary to what the media and dumbass fans would like you to believe, this really wasn’t a team-wide problem. There were a few others who failed to reach expectations, but they were within the margin of error. There are some who surpassed their expectations (Lee, Lilly and Wells) and there are a few who just reached them. I’m not interested in playing the blame game. The less intelligent Cubs fans will play that game all offseason long. I’m just trying to put some numbers out there so we have some facts to begin with. Unless Milton Bradley affected only these 3 players, it is not his fault like the media and dumbass fans are trying to tell us. I think all of us already know that, but it’s quite clear that aside from these 3 players, and Milton Bradley, the rest of the team played up to expectations. Do people honestly believe that Bradley affected these three so negatively that it doomed the team despite the fact that there is an equal number of players who far surpassed their projections? I mean, if Bradley is to blame for Soriano, Soto and Fontenot, isn’t he also responsible for Lee, Lilly and Wells? Three Cubs players had ridiculous bad seasons and three of them had excellent seasons (based on projections). Is this really that hard to understand? Is it that hard to accept that sometimes things don’t turn out as expected for a number of reasons? Why is it that Cubs fans are so dumb?
