Found April 30, 2012 on MetsZilla:

In the top of the eleventh inning with the go-ahead run 90 feet away, New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis dropped an opposite field RBI single in front of the left fielder giving NY a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish.  Of his 13 hits on the season, the single to left was just his second the opposite way.  After which, SNY broadcaster Kieth Hernandez said the following:

When was the last time Ike has gone to left field? And that shows me right there he is on his way back. He would not have done that this entire month.”

The single was Ike’s third of the afternoon and fifth over the last three games (5-for-12).  With the three-game hitting streak, the 25-year-old slugger has seen his season average rise from .123 to .169 in the process:

Following yesterday afternoon’s win, Davis told reporters that with his slow start it will take some time before his average will be back to normal:

It’s going to be a slow process. You’re not going to wake up tomorrow and I’m going to be hitting .300. It’s going to take every game grinding it out. And hopefully in a couple of weeks my average will be back to normal.”

Due to his early season struggles manager Terry Collins has been forced to move the left hander power hitter are far down as seventh in the lineup; in an effort to get his bat going.  Yet, the club is still four games over .500 with relatively no production from #29. I’ve stated before the importance of Ike to the middle of the lineup and hopefully the last three games — and his opposite field game-winning single — are a sign that Davis is ready to turn his season around.

Is Chris Schwinden a long-term solution for the rotation?

Chris Schwinden made his 2012 MLB debut this past Friday.  With <a href=”http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pelfrmi01.shtml”>Mike Pelfrey being shelved for the year… it’s likely to not be Schwinden’s last start with the big ballclub.  The question that Met fans are puzzling is, “Can our team win with this guy on the mound?” The answer is difficult...

Mets wore cowboy outfits for their road trip to Houston (Pictures)

The Mets completed a series in Colorado over the weekend and decided to dress up with a Western theme for their flight to Houston. The players wore cowboy outfits, and pitcher R.A. Dickey seemed to have the best time of all. Dressed as a sheriff, he shared the pictures you see above on his Twitter account. On the left he’s with the outlaw Johan Santana, and on the right he...

Post Game: Lead, Tie, Lead, Tie, WIN!

Ike Davis is beginning to show signs of life again, and for opposing teams...that's not good.   The New York Mets held a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the eighth, but a grand slam from the Rockies tied the game sending it to extras two innings later. The Mets got a one run lead once again, but another homerun tied it for the second time. New York got the lead back in the...

Johan sharp, bullpen not, but Mets earn hard fought series win over Rox

New York Mets ace Johan Santana cruised through six scoreless innings in this afternoon’s rubber match game against the Colorado Rockies, but despite allowing just two hits while striking out five, the lefty was unable to pick up his first win of the 2012 season. With the Mets up by four in the 8th inning, the typically reliable tandem of Jon Rauch and Tim Byrdak were knocked...

Old Time Mets: LHP Jon Matlack

Jon Matlack’s career record of 125-126 may be as mediocre as you can get, but Matlack was a much, much better than average major league pitcher. In fact, he was one of the very finest lefthanded pitchers ever developed by the Mets’ organization. His other career marks – 3.18 lifetime ERA (better than Steve Carlton, who was considered the best lefty of his generation), 97 complete...

Poll: What are realistic expectations for this year’s Mets team?

Before I get to the poll, I want to give you some background information to explain why I’m asking this question. I just had a debate on Facebook with a couple of guys about the Mets. The debate started with a pessimistic Mets fan named Jesse posting a sarcastic status update: “[The Mets] lost to the astros…..yea we are a good team” Jesse also told me: “Be a realistic...

Mets-Astros Preview

The New York Mets and Houston Astros were expected to be among the worst teams in the NL this season. So far, David Wright and the Mets are among the best. Wright and the Mets will try to conclude an impressive month on a positive note Monday night in the opener of a three-game road set against the Astros. New York (13-9) and Houston (8-14) both finished well out of playoff contention...
