It seems every Independent pitcher should have his eyes fixed on Toronto these days. The Blue Jays have already purchased three major league-experienced hurlers in recent days to provide depth because of the decimation of its starting staff.
Besides Wichita’s Nate Robertson, the Jays have right-hander Chris Jakubauskas, who can start or relieve, and lefty reliever Les Walrond at New Hampshire (Double-A). After two brief bullpen outings, Jakubauskas, who started his career in Indy baseball (two Frontier League teams plus Lincoln, NE, American Association, and Orange County, Golden League) went four innings (two earned runs) in a start earlier this week. He has been pinned with two losses, but has a 4.05 ERA for 6.2 innings. He had been let go by Arizona. Walrond was obtained Lancaster, PA (Atlantic League), and has worked 2.1 innings for the Fisher Cats so far (0-0, 3.86).
