By all accounts Chad Billingsley had a down year. After going 12-11 with a 3.57 ERA in 2010, the Dodgers signed him to a 3 year contract woth $35 million and an option for a 4th year in 2015 worth $14 mil.
His 2011 season where he went 11-11 with a 4.21 ERA may be worth the $6.275 mil he got last season but not the 2011 he will make in 2012 and he must step up.
If Hiroki Kuroda doesn’t resign but instead goes back to Japan, the Dodgers are left without a real number two starter. We have Ted Lilly but he’s more of a #3, which is what Chad Billingsley pitched like last season and if the Dodgers really want to compete in the National League West and make it far in the playoffs, we need someone to give the team at least 6-7 innings every start.
If Billingsley doesn’t improve, the Dodgers really overpaid for mediocre talent.
