By all accounts Chad Billingsley had a down year. After going 12-11 with a 3.57 ERA in 2010, the Dodgers signed him to a 3 year contract woth $35 million and an option for a 4th year in 2015 worth $14 mil. His 2011 season where he went 11-11 with a 4.21 ERA may be worth the $6.275 mil he got last season but not the 2011 he will make in 2012 and he must step up. If Hiroki Kuroda doesn’t resign but instead goes back to Japan, the Dodgers are left without a real number two starter. We have Ted Lilly but he’s more of a #3, which is what Chad Billingsley pitched like last season and if the Dodgers really want to compete in the National League West and make it far in the playoffs, we need someone to give the team at least 6-7 innings every start. If Billingsley doesn’t improve, the Dodgers really overpaid for mediocre talent.

Adios Carroll, You Will be Missed!

He didn’t hit a single home-run as a Dodger, has a below average arm and was never a full time starter but Jamey Carroll was one of the most important pieces on the Dodgers the last two seasons. Signed to much hilarity, the Dodgers needing a true bat at the time, and not some light hitting infielder, Jamey Carroll was blasted by fans but quickly became a fan favorite for his hustle...

Fantasy Baseball Risers – Jamey Carroll

When the Twins signed Jamey Carroll a few days ago, they were routinely mocked by the critics. A 37 year old utility player finally landing his first everyday job, as a starting SS? In the words of the Messenger who challenged King Leonidis in 300, This is Madness! However, as a fantasy baseball player we’re not too concerned with the salaries players earn, or about the quality...

Dodgers' Future Shouldn't Echo The Distant Past

Those halcyon days of Fred Claire and Peter O'Malley should be left in the past, as baseball (and what it takes to succeed in baseball) has moved on, says Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com: At long last Frank McCourt has opened up the path for the Los Angeles Dodgers to move out of the purgatory his destructive divorce and financial mismanagement subjected the team to these past...

Dodgers Lose Two Starters in Two Days

First Rod Barajas (85 starts at catcher in 2011) bolts for the Pirates. Now the Twins have signed Jamey Carroll (111 starts between second and short) to a two-year deal. "It's not general manager Ned Colletti's style to go into Spring Training without a veteran option at virtually every position," writes Ken Gurnick at Dodgers.com, so bring on the old guys!

Mets haven't contacted Broxton

Jonathan Broxton appears to be a good fit for the Mets, he's looking for a one year deal with incentives as he attempts to restore his career. The 27 y/o closer was a two time All-Star in which he collected 58 saves with an ERA under three. But Broxton hasn't effectively pitched in a year and a half, he's just over a month removed from what is described as minor elbow...

Quick Hits: Lee, Cespedes, Indians, Cards, Dodgers

On this date last year, the Red Sox and Marlins swapped Dustin Richardson for Andrew Miller, a deal that didn't really work out for either side. Here are some notes from around the league... Sosnick Cobbe Sports will represent Korean left-handed pitcher Seung-ho Lee according to the agency's Twitter feed. The 30-year-old is a free agent and looking to join a team...

Doumit Turned Down Dodgers Offer

The Dodgers offered free agent catcher Ryan Doumit a one-year deal for just under $3MM and the catcher turned it down, a source close to the team told Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times (via Twitter).  The Angels, meanwhile, still haven't called on the veteran. Doumit has reportedly received several offers and plans to sign with a team before the month is through. ...

Economists: $1 billion for Dodgers is realistic

A record price tag of $1 billion can be expected for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dodger Stadium and the surrounding real estate, according to several sports economists following the team's upcoming sale.

Twins To Sign Jamey Carroll

The Twins have agreed to sign Jamey Carroll to be their everyday shortstop, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. The multiyear contract is pending a physical. The Millenium Sports Management client drew interest from multiple teams this offseason.  The 37-year-old infielder played shortstop and second base for the Dodgers in 2011, posting a .290/.359/.347 line in 510...

Five years of Trolley Dodger

Today (11/12/11) marks the fifth anniversary of the Trolley Dodger — this is the date back in 2006 that I registered the domain and prepared to move the baseball/Dodgers portion of my blogging from my primary site, celsius1414.com, to its own home. Here’s the very first post that day. Thanks to everybody who have been around the last five years, especially my fellow...
