Mlb-all-star-home-run
Last night, Cliff Lee and Shane Victorino had an altercation in the dugout. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal, right? Happens all the time. Nobody had anything to say about it after the game. The problem isn't the argument. The problem is, one of the Phillies' strengths has been their clubhouse chemistry. This is a team that seemed unflappable, even to a fault. Suddenly in the last week we've seen Doc say he and his teammates are pressing, and now a player fight. Ultimately, the Phillies haven't lost since Doc talked, and they won the game with the fight, but this is not good. Shane Victorino is a free agent after this season. He is 31 years old, and is a couple time All-Star. After a slow start, Shane is coming on now: he's up to .263, with 13 stolen bases, 6 homers, a .759 OPS, and 22 runs scored. He's hit all over the line-up, and he's probably a top two or three offensive player in this line-up. He's also someone who will...

Cliff Lee and Shane Victorino Exchange Angry Words in Phillies Dugout

ESPN's Steve Berthiaume reports that there were angry words between Phillies starting pitcher Cliff Lee and outfielder Shane Victorino. Victorino lost a routine fly ball which led to a triple and ultimately a run.  By rule, the play is considered a triple if the fielder does not touch it. The Phillies broadcast ultimately talked about it and showed Charlie Manuel getting...

War of Words: Lee, Victorino bicker on bench; what it means for Phillies

Cliff Lee, who allowed three runs in seven innings last night, exchanged some fighting words on the bench with teammate Shane Victorino. (AP Photo/Jeff Roberson) The old saying is that baseball is a marathon and not a sprint. In that case, you have to remember that an entire 162-game season is a roller coaster ride. Things really seemed to be coming to a head when Charlie Manuel...

Another No Decision for Lee in Phillies Win

These are the kind of games that make me wonder why so much emphasis is put on pitcher wins and losses. It is a flawed statistic. Phillies starter Cliff Lee has a 2.82 ERA in 7 starts and NO wins through no fault of his own. At least 5 of those he should definitely have won, but the offense did not help out. Why is the win/loss stat still heavily relied upon when determining who...

Phillies Move Domonic Brown to Center Field: a Sign Shane Victorino is Heading Out?

@GMCarson just pointed me to this:  The Phillies have moved one-time super prospect Domonic Brown to center field at AAA Lehigh Valley.  Wow.  If you fail at left and fail at right, only other place is center, right? (Well, I suppose Brown could return to pitching).  This move could be very telling about the Phillies' future plans. We all know that Shane Victorino is going...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2012 ERA for the NL East at game 47

Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies is the best 2 in the NL East.  Our immediate rivals have what level of strength behind their 1-slot hurler?  The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage. TAL'S HANDY STATS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the...

Phillies 10, Cardinals 9

Shane Victorino helped the Philadelphia Phillies make a statement. Victorino and Freddy Galvis each drove in three runs, including Galvis' go-ahead single in the sixth inning, and the Philadelphia Philles beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-9 on Thursday night. ''We had the early lead, lost the lead early. This was a test of character,'' Victorino said. ''...

Phillies Win Wild One In St. Louis

Shane Victorino pulls into second after a two-run double in the second inning.(AP)As Charlie Manuel would say of the warm night in St. Louis, “Tonight was hittin’ weather.” And, oh, how true that would prove to be. Both teams would combine to score 19 total runs with 33 hits in a slug fest that found the Phillies outlasting the Cardinals by a score of 10-9.FAST START FOR PHILS...

Phils Combine for 18 Hits; Galvis and Victorino Combine for Six RBI in 10-9 Win

The Phillies traveled to St. Louis last night for a four-game series at the Cardinals. Obviously, the Cards and Phils' first meeting of the season will bring back a few painful memories from last season's NLDS in which the Cards came out on top, and were eventual World Series Champions. Joe Blanton and Jake Westbrook took the mound tonight at Busch Stadium in what was quite...

Cards come up short in opener vs. Phillies

Friday's Plays

Took yesterday and its seven game schedule off. I’m ready to improve on my season record of 13-6 +$658 with today’s full compliment of games (sans those that may fall under the “Vara Curse”*).     Cardinals +112 over Phillies Bet $100 Am I really taking Kyle Lohse over Cliff Lee? The numbers say this is actually a smart play. Consider that the Cards have won eight...

Are the Phillies gearing up for more summer surprises?

The Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. has never been one to shy away from the spotlight. He’s made bold, in season trades in each of the past three summers after taking over for Pat Gillick. This summer seems to be no exception. A few weeks ago, Amaro told Jim Salisbury, “July is so far ahead. We just have to get on track. But if July comes and we’re playing like this, we’ll...

Blame It On The Rain (Or Not)

What's really messed up about Monday's loss, when you think about it, is that the team that benefitted most from the rain was the team that never sees it.Okay, so Jeremy Hefner was good in his first major league start until a 68 minute rain delay. And then he came out and was complete garbage. He basically went from Cliff Lee to Lee Guetterman before our very eyes. These...
