This is hardly the most pressing issue in Mets land, but people keep asking me, so here it is: Jose Reyes is doing ‘The Spotlight,’ which has spread to the rest of the team, used to signify a big moment, or big performance, as in being center stage, under a spotlight. It can either be shined on you, or your teammate, or whomever is worthy of the moment. In talking to people around baseball this week about trade rumors and such, I learned that, yes, it’s the essentially the same as ‘The Claw,’ which people on the Rangers were doing last year. What’s the connection? Miguel Tejada and Esteban German started the move when they played together in Oakland. Reyes picked it up from Tejada when playing in winter ball, and morphed it in to ‘The Spotlight.’ German brought it to the Texas last season. In either case, nobody stole anything from any one.
