Heading into the final nine games of the regular season, the Tampa Bay Rays find themselves just three games back of the final wild card spot. However, what lies ahead is no easy task.

The Rays’ final opponents are the Red Sox, White Sox, then the Orioles. The first six are in Boston and Chicago then end it at Tropicana Field against the Orioles. Clearly this is setup for a dramatic finish, if the Rays can pull off another season miracle to get into the playoffs.

The Red Sox are playing for pride and they showed just last week against the Rays they are not laying down to end the season. The White Sox are in an American League Central battle so defeating them will be a challenge in itself.

Then you have the Baltimore Orioles. Currently sitting 4.5 games ahead of the Rays, they will be coming in to finish the season in what could be a crucial series for both teams. Baltimore has the next six games at home against the Blue Jays and Red Sox so it can easily be said they have an easier stretch.

But without relying on the other teams to lose, the key for this Rays team is their offense. They just finished a seven game homestand against Boston and Toronto which saw them winning five games and scoring 46 runs in those five wins. In the two losses, both to Boston, they scored just seven runs.

The Rays need to worry about themselves, get some runs on the board and focus on winning their games. That way if they can not get into the playoffs, at least they go down swinging. Literally.
