MIAMI (AP) -- Jacob Turner pitched a seven-hitter Saturday for his first complete game in 19 career starts, helping the Miami Marlins beat the San Diego Padres 7-1.
The complete game was the first for the Marlins this year. They had been outscored 20-3 while losing their first four games to San Diego this season, but the lowest-scoring team in the majors gave Turner a 6-0 lead after four innings.
Giancarlo Stanton hit his eighth home run, Jeff Mathis had two RBIs and Placido Polanco became the 22nd active player to score 1,000 runs.
Turner (2-0) struck out seven, walked one and threw 111 pitches, 77 for strikes. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 1.76 in six starts since being recalled from Triple-A.
The Marlins have the worst record in the majors, but they're 14-10 in June.
Eric Stults (6-6) gave up a season-high six runs, five earned, in 3 2-3 innings. The stint was his briefest as a starter since 2009.
The Marlins took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. After Justin Ruggiano and Ed Lucas singled, Marcell Ozuna hit an RBI single, and when the ball skipped past center fielder Alexi Amarista for an error, Lucas also came home.
Ozuna then scored on Polanco's sacrifice fly.
Miami added three runs in the fourth, when the first four batters reached. Adeiny Hechavarria hit an RBI single, and Mathis singled past a drawn-in infield to score two more runs.
San Diego's Will Venable tripled in the fifth and scored on Nick Hundley's double.
Notes: RHP Henderson Alvarez, who pitched 7 2-3 scoreless innings in a rehabilitation start Friday for Double-A Jacksonville, will rejoin the Marlins and move into the rotation next week. ... SS Everth Cabrera (strained hamstring) is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment with Single-A Fort Wayne on Tuesday, and he might rejoin the Padres on Thursday. ... Ozuna improved his average with runners in scoring position to .415 (22 for 53).

With June coming to a close, that only means one thing for Major League Baseball: the All-Star Game is right around the corner. While there are some obvious choices as to who should be selected for the All-Star rosters, the choice for the Miami Marlins isn’t entirely clear. The Fish, while still holding the worst record in baseball at 29-51, finished off June with a bit of a turnaround...

One of the most interesting stories in baseball this season is the Miami Marlins employing a twenty year old starting pitcher from Cuba who never pitched a game above A+ ball before this season. The Jose Fernandez story has been largely overlooked because of where the Marlins currently sit in the standings and the lack of national exposure the team gets. Now that we are nearing...

MIAMI Charles Johnson took a familiar pose Sunday, crouching behind the plate to receive Jeff Conines ceremonial first pitch before the Miami Marlins played the San Diego Padres.
