Jenrry Mejia pitched solidly today for St. Lucie as they beat Brevard County by the score of 4-2.
The Mets’ one-time top prospect tossed five innings and allowed just two runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Mejia’s fastball ranged between 91-95 mph, but more importantly he felt good afterward in what was his first major hurdle toward his return to the majors. Mejia is coming back from Tommy John surgery and is well ahead of schedule.

According to Andy Martino of the NY Daily News, Jenrry Mejia could be joining the Mets a lot sooner than has been initially reported.
“A lot of people might forget about Mejia,” said one high-ranking team official. “But he is progressing very well, and he could be in position to make a start for us before long.”
Mejia, 22, will be making his first rehab start this morning at 10:30 AM for the Single-A St. Lucie Mets. He is scheduled to throw around 75 pitches.
