The Outside Corner:
Boston Red Sox
San Francisco Giants
Since Jonathan Papelbon joined the Phillies last winter, he's noticed something that had never been an issue during his career in Boston: the team has a lack of veteran leadership. In an interview with Mandy Housenick of the Allentown Morning Call, "Since I've been here I haven't seen any leadership. Every good team that I've been a part of has had a good core group of veterans and an influx of a good group of young guys and I think that's a recipe for success," he said. "But at the same time, that doesn't mean we're going to have success. In my opinion, this team has way more to lose than to prove. I think a lot of guys on this team have proved a lot. But I think this year if we don't go out and do what we're capable [of] and supposed to do, then we have a lot more to lose. The longer it takes us to figure out who we are as a team, the longer it's going to take us to start winning," Papelbon said. It's pretty stu...
BEST OF MAXIM
Jonathan Papelbon is again raising some eyebrows.
Papelbon, who is generally outspoken when asked his opinion, may have just ruffled a few feathers in the Philadelphia locker room, as he called the Phillies’ leadership into question while discussing the state of the team.
“Since I’ve been here I haven’t seen any leadership,” Papelbon said, according to the Allentown Morning...
Baseball overload is right around the corner. Beginning with Saturday’s Grapefruit League opener against the Astros, the Phillies will play 35 games in 36 days and all but three of those exhibition contests will be available to watch or listen to in the Philadelphia region and beyond.
The Comcast Network, Comcast Sportsnet, WPHT 1210 AM and MLB Network will team up to serve heavy...
Phillies spring training games start in just a few days, and taking a look at Phillies tickets prices for the 2013 season shows some interesting things. This might be hard to believe, but the average price of spring training tickets is higher than that of regular season tickets. According to Seat Crunch, the average price of Phillies spring training tickets is $107.80; almost ...
I Love the Phillies, especially the 2012 team.
I grew up a Phillies fan having gone to my first game back in 1983 at Veterans Stadium. I got a patch that night in celebration of 100 years of baseball with different “P’s” on each base. It’s one of my most cherished baseball possessions; but even more important to me are the memories of my dad taking me to the ballpark and...
Jim Salisbury of CSN is reporting that Michael Schwimer, originally scheduled to pitch today for the Phils, has been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for 1B Art Charles. Schwimer, 27, had a 4.62 ERA in 47 games for the Phillies across 2011 and 2012. Schwimer averages over a strikeout per inning in Major League action and helped stabilize the bullpen as the Phillies made a second-half...
The Philadelphia Phillies have signed reliever Mike Adams.
The Phillies signing of Mike Adams could easily make their bullpen the best in the majors. Early signs from Adams in bullpen sessions sound as if he is fully recovered from last seasons surgery. Adams who had a condition called thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) that caused weakness in his pitching arm and numbness had surgery...
Grapefruit is the most disgusting of all fruits, but if you were starving in the desert, you would eat the **** out of it. That’s kinda what today is like for Phillies fans. Sure, not everyone is starting, (but hey Utley and Howard are!) and Cole Hamels will likely throw about 15 pitches before calling it a day. That said, it’s a lot more baseball than we’ve enjoyed for a couple...
In four seasons from 2008-2011, Roy Halladay‘s worst FIP was 3.06 (2009). In 2011 it was an astounding 2.20 on the strength of a career-best 8.47 K/9 and just a 5.1% HR/FB rate. While the homer rate was fueled by a bit of luck, the strikeouts were completely the result of skill. Honestly, 2011 was probably Halladay’s best professional season. So you want to write him off just...
Who is ready for some baseball?
The Phillies first competitive exhibition of the Spring is upon us – a five inning intrasquad game starting at noon. Team One, led by Jonathan Pettibone, will do battle with Team Two, led by Adam Morgan.
Here are the line-ups, first reported by Ryan Lawrence and Chris Branch:
Hot News for 2B Andres Blanco
According to David Murphy of the Daily News , former Phillies starter, current Twins starter Vance Worley was traded on the worst day imaginable. After a workout on the elliptical, Worley returned a call from Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. in which he learned he was traded to Minnesota. Not...
Shortly after the Phillies dropped their spring training opener to the Houston Astros, 8-3, word broke that the first roster change of the year had been executed. The Phillies traded relief pitcher Michael Schwimer to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for first base prospect Art Charles. Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly was the first to officially report the move on Twitter.

Since I have been here, I haven’t seen any leadership
Jonathan Papelbon, February 22, 2013
I wish I could have written about this quote sooner. But, to be honest, I don’t think there is much to say; I believe Papelbon’s misspoke during a period of quick reflection. A reflection on a season’s worth of disappointments that are understandable when compared to the high expectations...
Wow. What a find by Aerys Sports' Phillies blog, View From Section 116 the other day. The find in question? Phillies new centerfielder Ben Revere doing his best Beyonce cover in a Vitamin Water advertisement. The Vitamin Water ad comes from Revere's time with the Rochester Red Wings, the AAA...
