If you live in the New York area and listen to the “Boomer and Carton Show” on WFAN, then you may know that they like to play a certain sound bite when talking about the Mets’ utility player Jordany Valdespin. That being: “I’m the man right now!” Here is a link for a primer. Those immortal words were uttered after Valdespin played the hero back in May when he hit a three-run, game-winning home run off Phillies’ closer Jonathan Papelbon. With Valdespin just starting to grasp the English language, maybe something was lost in translation, but it’s a humorous little clip nonetheless. On the flipside, it does show the confidence that Valdespin has in himself. Well, with the way he is playing of late, Valdespin might be turning into the “man” as the versatile player is starting to have his impact felt on the field. In his last 13 games, Valdespin is 11-35 with one home run, one triple, four doubles and nine runs driven in. While his overall numbers (including a .224/.250/.431 slash line...

Mets Double Down to Back Gee in 4-3 Win

Dillon Gee was masterful, Frank Francisco walked the tight rope and a bunch of doubles were enough for the Mets on Wednesday night. Gee went seven-and-one-third innings, allowing just two runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out nine in a brilliant outing, at one point retiring 13 in-a-row. He turned it over to the bullpen for the final five outs and they made it worth the...

Images of Mets golfing: Who’s the best golfer on the team?

Dillon Gee (left) and Tim Byrdak (second to right) definitely win outfit of the day. By the way, if you can’t tell, that’s Dillon Gee, Tom Goodwin, Bobby Parnell, Jay Horwitz, Jon Niese, Tim Byrdak, and Eric Langill (bullpen catcher). Here’s another picture, where Mets PR man Jay Horwitz makes another appearance: By the way, if you can’t tell, that’s Josh Thole, Jeff...

Will The Mets Break Their Holding Pattern?

They get swept, they sweep. They get swept, they sweep. That’s how it’s looked since Friday, June 8, when the Mets walked into Yankee Stadium, fresh off dropping two in Washington, with Johan Santana making his first nerve-wracking appearance since his no-hitter. It didn’t go well. The gopher was well-fed by the time Sunday afternoon came around and the Yankees smirked...

Frank Francisco Calls Out Yankees, Says 'I Can't Wait to Face Those Chickens'

Frank Francisco is not having a good season, but that's done nothing to deter the reliever's confidence. Francisco's Mets will take on the Yankees for three games beginning on Friday, and he had a simple message for his upcoming opponents. R.A. Dickey shows how to throw a knuckleball

THAT's what's up We don’t need to scream from the back of the Dickey congregation any longer. He’s been found by all at this point. It’s simply awesome to watch. A knuckleballer that’s captivating any baseball fan worth his salt. The story is amazing. But, more impressively, the pitching is amazing. Dickey’s array of knucklers is dazzling. The fast one. The slower...

Francisco calls Yankees 'chickens'

At least somebody isn't afraid to talk trash about a cross-town rival. "I can't wait to face those chickens," Mets closer Frank Francisco said when asked about playing the Yankees in this weekend's Subway Series at Citi Field. "I want to strike out the side against them. I've done it before." Before Francisco could elaborate on his "chickens...

Mets closer Frank Francisco calls Yankees 'chickens'

Mets closer Frank Francisco sure knows how to egg on his team's cross-town rivals the New York Yankees.  Right before an important three game series this weekend, he calls them names and calls them out. "I can't wait to face those chickens," Francisco told The New York Post right before the Yankees cross the road (actually the Grand Central Parkway) to meet the...

Mets tie Subway Series tix price to gametime temp

No reason for New York Mets fans to get steamed over ticket prices for the Subway Series. As part of a summer promotion, the Mets tied the ticket price for some top seats this weekend against the New York Yankees to the gametime temperature Wednesday night. With heat advisories posted in the city, it was 94 degrees when the Mets started against Baltimore, and that meant a nice...

Would Youkilis to Mets make sense

By many accounts the Red Sox's have stepped up their efforts to trade Kevin Youkilis, once the heart and sole of Boston he now appears to be on the outside looking in at a clubhouse that may possibly be in total disarray. It's said that the Mets are weeks away from deciding if they're buyers and even if they venture into the trade market it will only be for smaller pieces...
