TEAMS: Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies
Maybe Matt Kemp's walk-off home run Wednesday was the beginning of a hot streak for the Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder. Kemp homered again Friday night, a two-run shot off Johan Santana to help the Dodgers to a 7-6 win over the New York Mets. It continued a great trend for Kemp this season against left-handed pitchers. He is hitting .489 (22-for-45) with a 1.000 slugging percentage against lefties, having hit seven home runs and drawn nine walks. Kemp's home run Wednesday was off a left-hander, Philadelphia Phillies reliever Jake Diekman, as was his home run Friday. After hitting 12 home runs in April to set a franchise record, Kemp went 72 plate appearances without hitting another home run, and he missed 51 games with a pair of left hamstring strain. But now, fully healthy, Kemp is back wreaking havoc on the National League, especially southpaws. The right-handed hitter hasn't been overmatched against right-handers, however. He's batting .301 (31-for...

My Best In-Person Autograph Experience: Matt Kemp.
First, let me say upfront I've never had a bad in-person autograph experience. Sure, there have been some line shenanigans and long waits, but I've always been able to get the autograph and chill with fantastic people during the waits. My best experience - to answer Fuji's latest contest question - isn't even close, however. Meeting Matt Kemp after camping out for...
Los Angeles Dodgers head east while going south
It’s a good thing the Los Angeles Lakers effort to obtain center Dwight Howard is dominating the headlines. The news is allowing the Dodgers to sneak out of town after a home stand in which they stunk up Los Angeles worse than the smog.
Matt Kemp’s 12th inning “walk off” home run versus the Phillies Wednesday afternoon was one of the few highlights Dodgers fans witnessed...
Dugout Digest - yeah, he's back
Since Matt Kemp returned to the Dodgers' lineup on Friday against the Padres, he's been pretty good....but, he hasn't been the Matt Kemp that dominated the National League in the month of April. Going into Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Kemp had just one extra base hit, a double, in four games since his return. On Wednesday, Kemp stepped up to the...
Dodgers-Mets Preview
Matt Kemp is giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a much-needed lift.
The New York Mets could certainly use one to avoid spiraling out of the NL East race.
Kemp looks to lead the Dodgers to their third straight win as they continue this three-game series against the struggling Mets on Saturday.
In six games since returning from a hamstring injury that sidelined him six weeks, Kemp is...
GIFcap: Mattycakes Is Back In Style
So Matt Kemp won the game for the Dodgers yesterday by both beating out an infield single to tie the game and hitting a walk-off two-run bomb. Quite frankly though, I’m not sure what I was happier about, the fact that the game was tied (above), the fact that the game was won (below), or
Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix, July 19, 2012: Matt Kemp Is Back, Trade Rumors Begin
Wednesday marked the official start of MLB's 2012 trade rumor season. Sure we've heard some rumbling throughout the first half and the Angels grabbed Ernesto Frieri back in May, but the true rumor mill can't begin until somebody links the Red Sox to Hanley Ramirez. USA Today's Bob Nightengale did the honors, reporting talks between the Marlins and Red Sox regarding...
Dodgers 7, Mets 6
Matt Kemp homered early and the Los Angeles Dodgers hammered a struggling Johan Santana before holding off the New York Mets 7-6 on Friday night.
Luis Cruz connected for his first major league home run and the Dodgers finally solved Santana (6-7), who entered 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA in five career starts against them. That included eight innings of three-hit ball in a 5-0 win June 30...

Game Picks - Thursday: July 19, 2012
For a second straight day, the picks just barely climbed over the .500 level. And it took a
couple of walk offs to do it. Matt Kemp has a flair for the dramatic and he saved that pick.
But walk offs give and they take as well. The walk off in Oakland on the first major league
homer by Brandon Hicks sunk that pick and Billy Butler's blast for the Royals sunk that pick.
And...
Baserunners scarce against Kershaw
Lost in the euphoria of Matt Kemp's walk-off home run on Wednesday was that Clayton Kershaw pitched another excellent game for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kershaw allowed one run in eight innings, throwing a career-high 120 pitches. He struck out seven and walked none, his fourth start without a walk this year and his eighth with one or fewer free passes. "I felt good today...
Top 8 Current Candidates For NL MVP – Which Could Be a Race For the Ages
We all know that MVP races often come down to the final weeks of the season. Who performs well in crunch time usually plays a large role in the decisions of voters.
Nonetheless, speculation is always fun. And with just two and a half months left in the regular season, the race certainly has been narrowed down.
So like I did when I broke down the AL MVP race, I’ll rank ‘em in...

The downside of checking the score
Wednesday night I was having a marvelous taco dinner with my family of origin when one of my sisters threw a nasty slider low and away. We're on a vacation in Florida and the Evil Blue Empire had tied the Phillies and the game was in extra innings. My sister's significant other, a baseball fan and Phillies fanatic, finally came to dinner in frustration...
