Mets Merized Online:
Juan Lagares is smoking the ball for Las Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League.
Last night, Lagares extended his hitting streak to seven straight games going 2-for-4 to raise his batting average to an even .400 in 60 at-bats with 24 hits, seven runs scored, eight runs batted in and a .853 OPS.
The Dominican native has hit in 12 of his last 13 games and has an incredible ten hits in his last twenty at-bats.
Lagares is batting third in the lineup and it seems to suit him well as he continues to drive the ball to all fields, make solid contact, and produce runs.
The Mets have said they are very comfortable with Lagares as their everyday center fielder and some in the organization expect him to have a breakthrough season in 2014.

Yesterday, we learned that that the Mets will listen to offers for Daniel Murphy, although it is far from a foregone conclusion he gets dealt.
Today, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York confirmed with a team insider that the Mets have had preliminary talks with other teams about Daniel Murphy, although it is not clear he will end up getting traded.

Adam Rubin got the sense that Ike Davis is a goner after a Mets insider told him that teams view him as a decent power bat with a change of scenery.
Davis is drawing far more interest from other clubs than Lucas Duda, and it looks fairly likely Davis ultimately will get traded this offseason.
A half-dozen teams have reportedly checked in with the Mets this offseason on the availability...
Assistant General Manager John Ricco met with reporters in Orlando and told them that so far the offseason is playing out as expected and that the Mets are doing their due diligence.
“I think a lot of teams are just doing their due diligence like we are, talking with clubs. You’re trying to balance the free agents that are out there and the trade opportunities. Until you start...
Here’s a glimmer of hope for all you optimists out there, and it comes from your Mets COO, Jeff Wilpon.
David Lennon reports that Wilpon said the Mets were busy and they could have something working later this afternoon. Although he did say free agent prices in this market could be “scary”.
“We’re open for business,” Wilpon said. “I’d say there’s three, four, five...
The Mets are “kicking around” the idea of adding an assistant hitting coach, saying Mike Puma of the New York Post via Twitter. Puma indicates however that nothing is imminent.

A half-dozen teams have checked in with the Mets this offseason on the availability of Ike Davis and Lucas Duda, according to several reports including this one from Jon Heyman who says the Astros, Orioles, Rays, Brewers and Rockies all have checked in as the Mets field offers.
Two sources with direct knowledge of the team’s thinking told the Andy Martino of the Daily News...
This is the time of year that most Mets fans thrive for. Since being a contender hasn’t been part of the fold recently, fans have used this time to come up with different trades, signings and scenarios for the Mets. Some are actually logical and would help, and some are just laughable (one Twitter user suggested trade Lucas Duda and Ruben Tejada for Max Scherzer).
Sandy Alderson stepped into the hotel lobby at the general managers' meetings and was ready with a quick quip.
''I was upstairs stacking our money,'' the New York Mets general manager said Monday.
He paused for four seconds.
''Don't get excited,'' he said. ''They were all fives.''
And how high was the pile?
Posted on the Wall Street Journal website yesterday, Jared Diamond shared a great point about the state of the Mets and GM Sandy Alderson:
Alderson can no longer ask for patience. He cannot afford to keep talking about a plan without delivering on those promises. The time for meaningful progress has arrived.
I feel that fans have heard enough over the years from the Mets’ brass...
According to Andy Martino, the Mets have talked to free-agent OF-1B Corey Hart, but nothing is close and he’s not considered a top target.
“We haven’t discussed him in depth enough to say where we’d put him if we got him,” a team source said.
Hart, 31, missed the entire 2013 season with multiple knee surgeries, but over his previous three seasons the righthanded slugger...
WFAN’s Mike Francesa said today, that Ike Davis wants out. Francesa said he spoke with Davis during the All Star break and Ike said he wanted to leave. The former Met first rounder believes the fans have given up on him and the team has given up on him. (Hat tip to Julie)

The New York Mets used Veterans Day as an opportunity to unveil new camouflage uniforms.
The GM/Owners meetings historically are not meant for trading and free agent signings but that trend has changed over the last few years (or, I’ll admit, maybe I’ve started to pay more attention over the last few years and it just seems that way). Anyway there are a few Mets related stories starting to surface for the upcoming week.
The smaller story involves Boras. Both MLBTradeRumors...
Everybody loves a home run slugger. There’s nothing quite like the baseball excitement of batters with the pop in their bats to blast the ball out of the park every time they step to the plate. Yet, in the post steroid baseball era, consistent home run sluggers, guys that can be counted on to hit thirty or more home runs year after year is diminishing.
Soaring individual home...
This afternoon in Orlando, Sandy Alderson suggested getting two starting outfielders this winter might now be an uphill battle because of all the teams searching for those types of bats.
“We might bring in more than two starting outfielders. Who knows how things are going to break?” Alderson said. “I’d be surprised if that happens only because there’s so much interest in...
