Rangers veteran Lance Berkman went on a bizarre rant against nearly every baseball purist’s version of baseball heaven–Wrigley Field. What exactly is Berkman’s  beef with the stadium is a bit of a mystery, but it’s clear he’s got something against the place. As reported by Yahoo Sports when reporters asked the long time former Astro what it meant to play in Wrigley Stadium, he offered these ‘kind’ words: “If they’re looking for a guy to push the button when they blow the place up, I’ll do it … Chicago’s one of the worst places in baseball … really for anything. I read where they got approval for some more upgrades. Count me in the group of people extremely happy to see that. I guess I’m just spoiled. There is a tremendous history associated with it and there is something special about playing on the same field that guys like Babe Ruth did. But really, what kind of history is there? It’s not like there has been one championship after another. It’s mainly been a place for people to go and drink beer.” This all comes on the heels of a Rangers/Cubs series, their first meeting since 2002. What looked to be a rather dull matchup just turned into must-see TV as the devoted Cubs fans will no doubt give Berkman a very warm welcome. Did Berkman cross a line by attacking one of the sport’s most historic and treasured venues, or does he kind of have a point?
