Larry Yount How close did you come to your dreams? I was reminded of this piece of infamous history after watching Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, Shawn Tolleson, make his MLB debut yesterday. Tolleson was removed after walking the first two batters he faced in his career. The story of Larry Yount is excruciating.  Imagine coming within moments of your childhood dream and never getting a chance to fulfill it.  On September 15, 1971, the 21-year-old right-hander entered the game in the ninth-inning, making his MLB debut for the Houston Astros. Yount threw several warm-up pitches before experiencing severe pain in his elbow, which forced him to leave without throwing a pitch in the game.  Unfortunately, he never reached the majors again.  He finished his career having never faced an official batter in MLB, entering the record books with the shortest career in history.  Since Yount was announced into the game, he is officially listed as appearing in one career game. 1 Game / 0IP / 0H / 0R...

Uribe will play third when he returns, Mattingly says

The Dodgers will get Juan Uribe back as early as Monday, but that could create a playing-time crunch for some Dodgers who have been key contributors this season. Uribe has been sidelined since May 14 with a left wrist injury but is getting close to returning. He will play three rehab games this weekend with Class A Rancho Cucamonga beginning Friday and is expected to be activated...

Dodgers 2012 MLB Draft Recap: Day 3

The 2012 MLB Draft has concluded. In the end the Dodgers took 24 position players, compared to 17 pitchers, 12 of whom are righties. It's no mystery the Dodgers are starved for quality position prospects, but I think that changed dramatically after the conclusion of this year's draft. I see a lot of quality from top to bottom, with a refreshing balance for the Dodgers,...

Los Angeles Dodgers have heart but Kershaw’s foot is questionable

The week started inauspiciously enough.  Legendary Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda suffered a heart attack, it was announced Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw was fighting an inflammation of the foot known as planter’s fasciitis, and the team entered June having lost six of the last eight games they played in May.   Who knew they’d rather be in Philadelphia. The Dodgers Elian...

Kid makes funny face, nearly gets nailed

During last night's Philadelphia Phillies/Los Angeles Dodgers game, one of the television cameras caught a young fan sitting behind the home plate sticking his tongue out at Dodgers pitcher Kelly Jensen. Well, I guess the baseball gods didn't appreciate the boy doing that as a foul ball seconds later nearly hits him in the face:

Dodgers 8, Phillies 3

Harang (5-3) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings, improving to 100-98 in 11 big league seasons. The Dodgers had not swept a four-game series at Philadelphia...

Old Friend Alert: Trayvon Robinson

With the Dodgers arriving in Seattle for a weekend series, The Seattle Times conducted an online chat for fans with former Dodger minor leaguer, and current AAA center fielder for the Tacoma Rainiers, Trayvon Robinson. There are a few questions about the Dodgers that will be of interest for readers of this blog (for one, Trayvon considers the Dodgers more strict as an organization...

Dodgers-Mariners Preview

Even without production from their most potent hitters, the Los Angeles Dodgers are having a very good week. It could remain fairly pleasant at Safeco Field, considering the Seattle Mariners offense has been dreadful at home entering Friday's series opener against the big league-best Dodgers. As Los Angeles plays without top hitter Matt Kemp (hamstring), NL RBI leader Andre...
