Citizens Bank Park did not have too much energy as tonight's game got under way. Cliff Lee allowing two runs right away in the top of the first, and the Phillies failing to score in the bottom half after getting their first two runners on, definitely did not help that cause one bit.
Opposing starter Jeff Francis threw five and two-thirds scoreless innings this evening, allowing just six hits and one walk while striking out seven batters. Cliff Lee was shaky in the first inning, but was able to get things together for the rest of his outing, allowing just two runs on 8 hits in 6.1 total innings pitched. 72 of his 104 total pitches were thrown for strikes.
Things would finally turn the Phillies way in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs, as pinch-hitter Laynce Nix hit a two-run double to tie the game at two. Much credit goes to Juan Pierre and Chase Utley who kept ...

Phillies Odds and Ends – Rain Out, Charlie Will Be Back, Polanco May Not Be Back & Injury Updates
The Philadelphia Phillies entered play Saturday at 67-71 (Saturday’s game was rained out). They are only 4 games under .500, and 7 games out of the final Wild Card spot with 24 games to go. The Phillies and Rockies will now play a double header. First game will be at 1:05, the second at 6:35.
The Phillies activated catcher Carlos Ruiz from the disabled list on Friday. Ruiz had...
Utley playing third base for Phillies remains intriguing idea
Twice in the last 10 days, Chase Utley has taken groundballs at third base. It's an experiment that's very much in the infant stages, and earlier this week Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel shot down the likelihood of it materializing into something that could take place in a major league game this season. "He's taking groundballs there, that's what...
In a Surprising Move, Phillies Activate Catcher Carlos Ruiz from the Disabled List; Disable Polanco
Wow, I did not see this coming.
As recently as last week, the Phillies seemed to indicate that Carlos Ruiz would not be back in 2012. Given the Phillies incredibly small odds of a postseason birth and the danger of playing on an injured ankle, I personally did not expect to see Chooch again in 2012.
But, according to CSN Philly.com, Ruiz has been activated from the disabled...
Umpires lose track of the count during Ryan Howard’s at-bat (Video)
Your browser does not support iframes.
Expand instant replay! Expand instant replay! No, just kidding. Although I do think instant replay needs to be expanded and we need to make use of the technology we have at our disposal, the situation that arose during the Phillies win over the Reds on Thursday was just comical.
Ryan Howard nearly drew a three-ball walk in the top of the third...
Halladay Strong in Phillies Win Over the Reds
This has not been an ideal year for anyone in the Phillies organization, especially Roy Halladay. After landing on the disabled list earlier in the year, Halladay struggled to regain his usual form.
In a 6-2 win over the Reds, Halladay finally looks like he is healthy again and back on his usual game. Over 7 1/3 innings, Halladay allowed just 1 earned run and struck out 5 batters...
Cliff Lee Opens Up Home Stand Against Rockies
The Phillies are coming off of a six-game road trip in which they took both series two to one. First, the Phillies took the first two of three against the Braves over the weekend. Eying up a sweep, a disaster ensued and the Phillies moved on to Cincinnati for a three-game set with the NL Central-leading Reds. The Phillies took the first game while dropping the second. In the finale...
Rain Delay Reading: A Kyle Kendrick Visit is a HUGE PRIZE

AT&T sponsored a "Win at Home" contest for Phillies fans last season. The top prize was to be a redesign of a family room and a barbecue with a Phillies player visit. This visit was from Kyle Kendrick. The winner was excited:
Fanning herself and repeatedly telling her friends how amazing it was to have Kendrick in her house...
Cliff Lee Gets No-Decision in 3-2 Walk-Off Win
A muggy night in Philly brought about the start of a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies. Cliff Lee was looking for his fifth win on the season, while the Phillies were looking to gain some ground in the wildcard race.
Cliff didn't have a simple first inning. Carlos Gonzalez doubled with Rutledge on base, bringing him around to score. Wilin Rosario singled after...

Pollypalooza Farewell Tour
We may have just witnessed the farewell tour of Placido Polanco in Major League Baseball, as he was placed on the DL yet again. He certainly didn't garner the same amount of fanfare as Chipper Jones has this year in his final season. Of course Polly hasn't called it a career yet, that's merely speculation on my part. Polly's second tour of duty with the Phillies...

Phils Come Back and Walk It Off Against Rockies
PHOTO: AP
The Phillies couldn’t do much at the plate against the Rockies Friday night, but they did enough to win the game, as they came back from a late 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 on a pinch-hit, RBI single by Nate Schierholtz. It was their 10th walk-off win of the season.
