Found August 03, 2012 on Redlegs Review:
After going 13 games without playing a team with a winning record, the Redlegs (65-41) played host to one on Friday in the likes of the second-place Pittsburgh Pirates (60-45). The Reds entered the weekend series 3.5 games up on the Buccos and looked to put some seperation between themselves and the upstarts from The Steel City. Well, thanks to a huge night by Mat Latos, the Reds did just that. The tall right-hander was instrumental in securing a 3-0 victory and thus, increased Cincy's division lead to 4.5 games. Chris Heisey got the home team on the board in the bottom of the second on a inside-the-park home run, his fourth of the campaign. Latos would later add to the lead after he uncorked his first career homer off Pirates starter Wandy Rodriguez (7-10), a 2-run shot. That proved to be more than enough as Dusty Baker's club surged to their 21st win in their past 24th game. Here's a recap of all the good, the bad, and the notables from the series opene...

Three causes for concern for the rest of the Reds season

Don't be fooled by the team's hot play as of late. Veteran Scott Rolen knows there's a long way still to go. Let me first begin by saying that I consider myself to be as optimistic as they come. That is, I choose to look at the glass half-full and always opt to look at things in a positive light. With that in mind, I also consider myself to be relatively realistic...

Reds, Pirates get feisty in showdown series

CINCINNATI -- As so often opens in a keenly-contested, hot-button baseball series, one small thing can grow and bloat and explode into something big. There is that possibility this weekend during the Cincinnati Reds-Pittsburgh Pirates series, a three-game argument for supremacy in the National League Central. All was calm and all was bright for the Reds with two outs in the ninth...

Reds Shutout Bucs in Series Opener

Final: Reds 3, Pirates 0 WP: Mat Latos (10-3, 3.94 ERA) LP: Wandy Rodriguez (7-10, 3.82 ERA) SV: Aroldis Chapman (24, 1.37 ERA) The Reds capitalized on two mistakes by Rodriguez, and that was enough as the Pirates’ offense was nonexistent with only one base runner made it to third base. Reds keep rolling

It was another frustrating night in Cincinnati for the Pirates, as they came up short in both the beanball/intimidation/whatever-you-want-to-call-it battle as well as, you know, the game itself. The Bucs are in danger of being swept in the weekend series, and they now trail the Reds by 5.5 games. Their wild-card edge for the second spot is also down to just 2.5 over the Cardinals...
